While the vet was out to one of the ponies yesterday, I let my mini dachs pup off his lead for a run about in the field. Anyway he found, without me noticing, the long-dead remains of a rabbit. There are lots about and he usually ignores them but typically yesterday got stuck in to a feast.
This morning he seemed lethargic - through the day he has got worse and so is going to the vet in half an hour.
He did a very dark, very large, sloppy poo in the kitchen and also weed in the living room - somthing he never does. He is just lying next to me half comatose, now and again he dribbles and retches . When I called the vet and told them I thought they'd want him straight in but they gave us an appointment 3 hours away???
I am hoping it's just a bout of food poisoning but having trawled the internet, am a bit worried about pest poison. YO doesn't use it but is there anything a local farmer might use on rabbits? Also a lot of them have myxi, but I don't think that affects dogs. It seems botulism, salmonella and so on might be possible. Anyone had a similar experience? Looks like one vet's visit has led to another!
