So after losing both of our dogs last year we have got ourselves a Jack Russell pup. She's lovely, however she likes eating her own poo! Has anyone got any advice on how to deal with this, because I've never had this problem with any of my previous pups?! Thanks

It's quite common, best thing is to pick up asap and not give him a chance to do it.
Other things that might help are pine apple or corgette in his food. Garlic tablets or there is a product called stool repel that you can get from pet shops.

Ours ignores her own thankfully but loooves cat poo :( Try finding that in 8 acres :(

Hope you find something that works. .

make sure she is on lead for toileting - should be easy if she is young. Have a treat quietly in your pocket ready ... as soon as she has finished, call her to you and treat. You can use the lead to gently move her away/lure her if she is more interested in the poo than the treat until she gets the hang of it.

When you have this established on lead you can achieve the same off - keep an eye on dog, and as soon as she has finished, call and treat. You just need to break the habit - don't panic too much if it goes on for a bit though ... it is pretty normal for some pups and most just grow out of it - but having worked with some serial poo eaters it is good to get the training in asap.

Don't go down the route of diving on it and grabbing it up from under her nose or shoooing her away from it - the more value you put on it the more she will think it is important! Just be casual.

also consider what she is eating - is it a good quality, highly digestable food? the cheaper foods have lots of indigestable ingredients in them so often poo comes out smelling pretty much the way food went in to a pup - and is therefore worth eating again!
