I haven’t had a puppy for five years. I’ve not missed it! 🤣.
Next week the new one comes home and accordingly I’m off to do a puppy shop.
I’ve rummaged around the boxes in the feed room and found a decrepit puppy collar and one Kong.
So… off to Pets at Home tomorrow.
I’ve got food, bed etc.
A toy (at least if she’s kennelled with the beagle it won’t constantly be stolen!).
More Kongs as Beagle will need one too.
That’s as far as I’ve got.
Any suggestions?

I've got enough leads and collars to outfit 50 puppies should the urge ever strike (I don't have a problem, honest...) but have always bought a few new pieces of vet bed for each, so it's new and fluffy and there's enough to swap and wash. I don't think they need an awful lot else while they're still in the small potato stage?

Given you’ve had dogs a long time, I very much doubt you need anything. I have multiple collars/leads/harnesses, I think it would be mad to buy more. Chew toys for teething? Puppy feed? Although there’s little difference, ime, between adult and puppy, maybe 1% protein, although phosphorus is key too. Our biggest purchase was probably the very tall cage that fitted the Tuffie and a tall puppy-Mitch, just because he was a destructive puppy. Presumably she’ll be living outside, tho?

The only thing I buy is the food and some chews (yaks milk, pizzles and tracheas), we make do with all the other bits.
Collars, leads, crates and towels for beds etc we usually have kicking about.

Once you already have dogs, there seemingly isn't a huge amount you really need to buy.

It's quite nice really.

It means you can snatch up a puppy the moment you fancy.
I’m afraid that never works for me. I research, plan, think, get advice, wait a bit. Repeat. Finally I found one that ticked all my boxes… shame she’s 7 hours away!

Anyway I had a woeful outing to PAS. Spent £30. Hopeless! (And half of that was replacing the benebone Scout lost down the paddock, which means he’ll find it again now).

Oh lord! Up north somewhere? Or are you going up and west again?

We have the been one subscription, they both like the fish or bone but not the branch shape.
Absolutely as it should be.

Puppies should not be on a whim.

But I am partial to a puppy on a whim...
Think I’m queen of this! 🤦🏼‍♀️

North Yorkshire! Like they don’t breed Labradors in the south west 🤣. Ffee and I are going on a Thelma and Louise road trip for a few days.
Without the sex and suicide!

Im dying! Hopefully you won’t be near any cliffs. 🤣

Are you staying overnight en route (I assume so!) That’s a heck of a journey. Does the breeder also breed spaniels? Just my bil’s latest is from North Yorkshire and I know she breeds more than one type. He’s coming down on Sunday to re-introduce the youngster to our two because he wants us to have him for a fortnight in July (by the end of which he’ll be trained, same as the last time!)

I wonder if she’ll meet Brad Pitt on the way? 🤣

Well this is exciting! What colour have you gone for? Sorry may have missed a thread!

Tell me why you need to drive 7 hours? What makes a labrador that much better than a well bred one closer to you?

This is a private breeder who had a litter because he wants a pup himself. No spaniels on the premises!

Black.
It was a bit of an accident. I had a pup requested from a friend in Devon. At the last minute she didn’t breed but a friend of hers put her bitches full sister to the same chosen dog.
I chatted to him, sounded great, reserved a pup… then found out he was in Yorkshire. 🤣. I’m ridiculously fussy, which I know is OTT at my ownership level. But I’ll be hopefully looking at the result for getting on 15 years, I may as well like that I see.
And the last two were not absolutely what I wanted. As I see bigger bag game shooting not going on forever I wanted a proper hurrah!

I see! 😆 Well, Yorkshire is really lovely to visit! Nothing wrong with being fussy! As you say its a big long term decision, I just genuinly wondered what made one THAT much better!
