Hi, I help out regularly at our kennels and as such have been invited to the Puppy Show and for tea afterwards. I'm really looking forward to going but want to make sure I abide by any etiquette as I normally look after the horses so don't have too much involvement with the hounds.

Can anyone tell me what to expect please and also what type of thing I should wear - I don;t want to turn up looking completely out of place!

Thank you.

Firstly just act your self. You have been invited so therefore as important as everyone else.
What to expect- Its basically 2 judges that come from another hunt to judge last years entry, judges can be and are usually a master and a huntsman from another hunt, the hounds are shown by your huntsman on flags with railings around them, people sit around the edge on rows of chairs, everything at the kennels will be immaculate, every bit of grass in sight will of been mowed, plenty of hanging baskets about. After the judging has taken place people who walked the winning hounds will receive prizes, such as cut glass or crystal or silver wear. All the puppy walkers get presented with a silver tea spoon with the name of their hound on it. Then you will all go in a marquee for tea, which usually consists of sanwiches etc and strawberries and nice cakes.
What to wear- depending on the weather! You could wear a nice summer dress, or a skirt and top, a summery trouser suit, some ladies wear a hat. As long as you arnt in jeans or scruffy looking clothes you will be fine.
Hope you enjoy it send me a PM how you get on.

Thank you both, you've been a great help. The clip showed me what to expect so at least I'm not going in 'blind'.

I'm glad I checked Steelydan because I didn't realise it was quite so formal so at least now I will be correctly dressed. I am going to help with painting the kennels etc so I may offer to do some hanging baskets or similar. I'm looking forward to it even more now!

I wish someone would offer to do all my hanging baskets and pots!!! They are all still green and puppy show is in 8 days time - anyone got any plastic ones - LOL!
Puppy Show is traditionally held for 2 reasons, firstly as a thank you to the Puppy walkers for all their hard work and secondly to welcome the new entry (the puppies being shown who will be out learning the ropes in August / September.
Enjoy it though it is something everyone should do at least once. It's great to catch up with people you haven't seen since the end of the season too.
