As per title really. Picking up my little black lab pup in a few weeks time and wondering whether any of you have good or bad experiences of classes in this area. And never done it before, but might want to 'dabble' in some showing (help!!) so want to give her a good start. Wondered whether it would be ok to take my 7 year old son along as well so he learns the right way to train the puppy (Nia). We have an older lab, but got her when she was a few years old so she was already trained.

Also what age to start? She'll be 12 weeks when we collect her (from friend who is also a breeder, and who is kindly hanging onto her for a few extra weeks as we are away for a few days early July).

Thanks in advance. :)

The Reading and District Dog club is extremely good if you are willing to travel that far. Children were welcome last time I was done there and it's always a good idea to get the children involved in the puppy training.

Start as early as possible, clubs will expect you to have done vaccinations, so you may want to ask the breeder to start these for you (if I remember correctly it's two vaccinations, two weeks apart and the puppy is fully protected two weeks after the last one, but check with your vet).

I am currently going to K9 planet at Tadley. Not sure where you are though as it could be a hike if you west of Newbury. They run 6 week courses which is a bit of a pain as you want to start when the pup is ready not when the course starts. I have been to 2 classes so far. It seems ok.

Having looked at the website for reading and District dog club it looks better. Just too far for me to go. The beansheaf estate is just off M4 jn 12.
