'Naughty puppy' as she will be referred to for now is 10wks old. I was wondering what stage should I be at in training.
NP has got a very good 'sit', is currently mastering 'leave' (if NP is approaching something NP shouldn't), has nearly mastered 'wee wee'.. and I don't know why but I have invented a new training technique called 'ah ah' when NP touches something NP shouldn't, bites, jumps up, carries something NP shouldn't or is generally naughty. And NP loves 'good girl' and rolls over for a tummy tickle..

So the question is, am I doing too much or is this ok for a NP husky in particular? :)

I think you're doing great but as with any baby, for sits and downs, encourage them into the position by guiding them with a treat rather than pressing on the bum or withers.

Focus training, IE getting her to look at you to get what she wants (treat, play, cuddle, food, whatever) is the most important thing to instill at any age IMO :)

We have ah-ah too, as well as NO! 'Don't even THINK it!' and 'I'MGONNAKILLYOUIFYOUTAKEONEMORESTEP' :p :D

PICS!

Sorry, I'm just jealous, I missed out on cute puppyhood with mine and wish to live vicariously. :p

If there was anything I could have done with mine as a puppy, rather than starting from scratch as an adolescent, it would have been a solid grounding in recall and also work on separation. Obviously nothing too structured at that age but 'come here puppp-eeeeee YAAAAAY!' should elicit a response every time, don't ever let her ignore it, and if you haven't already I'd start leaving her for very short periods. Obviously this is easier once wee-wees can be done on command, else you tend to come back to puddles. :p

Agree recall, although good recall comes from focus :)
Play my favourite game with her where you have two people calling her back and forth, the person holding her must not let go until she is squirming to get to the person calling her, who must at that stage be squealing like an idiot and being THE most interesting and fun person on the planet. Increase the distances and the silliness for best results :p

CC thanks for all the great tips, me and my mum played the back and forth game with her the other day and we couldn't keep up for laughing. She was so so funny running to us and past us :0.
I leave her in her cage for 1-2hrs a day whilst I do gym, chores etc and she is becoming really good at this, so very pleased at the moment.
BC I shall take some new photos tomorrow and post them, she really has grown. She looks like a fully grown husky in a puppy's body :)

Note that the piggy-in-the-middle game doesn't work once they reach teenagerhood, they catch on fairly quickly and just lie down in the middle and give you disdainful glares. In those situations, apply cooked chicken bits for a slightly higher success rate. :p

You are doing better with the separation than we are in that case! I can get 1.5 to 2 hours with nothing destroyed but 3 hours seems to be the cutoff for kitchen cupboards being opened and the contents distributed widely.

Love that phrase, I adopt the same in the form of 'Samu, Samu come on, SAMU...SAMU HERE, DONT YOU DARE.COME HERE NOW,HERE,HERE,HERE.NOOOO'

Hehehe. Don't give her loads of options as she gets older though - if she doesn't do something on the first or second time, but you still praise her and let her away with it on the fifth or six, she will learn it is OK to make you repeat yourself :p

So is it best for me to call her once to me, then maybe again. If she doesn't come (as in gnores me) should I go to her? What I have been doing is always making sure I have a small treat with me when I ask her to come (but she has a attention deficit disorder..I'm sure) but it is about a 50/50 success rate.

Put a little light lead/line on her and gently tug her towards you with lots of encouragement. If you go to her and if you give loads of options and time, the dog will train you, not the other way around :D

There's a reason there's a husky pup on the box. :p

The success rate I feel is only down to the use of a crate, otherwise I'm sure contents of cupboards would be under investigation. I trust her but not enough to let her out just yet, she normally sleeps whilst I'm out and is a giddy ball of fun as soon as I come back.

Long lines of any kind are an utter godsend, you can't let them have the option of ignoring you, even now I very occasionally have to physically reel Daxie in if I've called her and she hasn't come but damnit, she will be sat by my feet if I have to drag her along the floor. Most of the time now just a slight movement of the line is enough to snap her out of whatever she's fixating on and come hurtling back. :)

The one to avoid is my neighbour's method of recall training, which consists of...

"(Dog), come! Doggy come! Doggy come here! Oi, dog, come! COME HERE NOW! DOG, COME HERE, YOU ARE GOING TO BE IN SO MUCH TROUBLE!"

Nah, I wouldn't come back either. :p Shout once, if ignored, shout again and tug. :) I also don't bother calling her unless there's a line attached, no point setting yourself up for failure!

I sound a bit like your neighbour then apart from I will go over and physically move her (easy whilst she is so small) , I shall be long line shopping then tomorrow. Bless her she is doing well, but you can tell they have a little switch off button in their brain.

just got my new puppy today! and already glued to my heels! been out for toilets several times and cats are fine! i feel the crate might be noisy tonight!! but needs must!
