Just to update on the puppy situation....

Mum self whelped three beautiful pups on sunday night/monday morning, two white ones (will be parti colour) a dog and a bitch, and a stunning red with white markings, a boy. Unfortunately the red boy was unexpected, she had been scanned twice with only two! He appeared over ten hours after the first one and was not in his sac. He took one half hearted breath as he was born, but he was completely white and despite trying to resusciate him for over half an hour he never took another breath :(

Mum has been a nightmare, she turned on her pups the second the were born, the first one, the white boy we held for her to clean up and bond with and she grabbed his head, ripped through his ear. She growls if the pups come anywhere near her and will bite them. Unfortunately despite doing well for the first day he went rapidly downhill yesterday and after 3 vets visits in the afternoon he sadly passed away in his sleep, snuggled up to his sister :(

We only have the little girl left, she is a beauty but very tiny and not a great feeder. We are having to hand rear her now and she is very slowly gaining weight, but its 2 hourly feeds through the day and night so im exhausted!

Obviously, im not going to be online much as im a bit busy, my mum has just taken over puppy duties for a couple of hours so I can get some sleep, so thought i'd update this for anyone wondering. Thoughts and vibes for the little girl please, if she pulls through she will be living with me, im already so attached to her!

Little girl on the left with her brother who died. I havent taken any pics today so this is all I have, sorry!

Aw bless poor you and poor puppies and poor Mummy dog as she is obviously a bit bewildered. Having done the 2 hourly feeds with slippers the cat last year the only advice I can give is that he very quickly started sleeping longer at night...so I let him and got him into a longer sleeping pattern which did wonders for my sanity!! Also if Mum is producing any milk at all and will let you milk her do as the more "immunity" milk pup gets the better and stronger she'll be. Chin up...and hugs!

What a shame! Good luck with the little bitch, Mum and I hand reared a litter (the dam died), it was exhausting but so worthwhile, and the pups had the most amazing characters.

Thanks guys.

I just got woken up to help my mum do a feed, she is not so good as me - I've had a lot of practice the last 48 hrs lol

Little baby is definately a fighter, I just hope she carries on and doesnt give up like her poor brother.. She's on a course of antibiotics just incase, which she hates taking - she actually wrinkles her nose up at it :D lol

Im really naughty to do this when she is so fragile and we dont know if we'll make it, but I have named her "Evey" - I was just watching the movie V for Vendetta earlier today and that was a characters name, it seemed to suit her :)

It's a lovely name (and a great film!). I actually think it's rather nice that you've given her a name, not naughty at all :) I really hope for you that she pulls through, all fingers and paws crossed for her over here. And I'm really so sorry to hear about the other two pups, that must be heartbreaking :( x

Thanks guys :)

She has just had a huge feed, took nearly 5ml of milk (doesnt sound much but for a tiny person that is fantastic!!) and is now content asleep on her heat pad :)

Aw yay that is brilliant!! Go Evey! And re: naming her....slippers my wee rescue kitten was named the minute I found him.

Little Evey, taken during a feed last night at about 3am!

Mum has suddenly started to calm down around her and is letting Evey snuggle up to her, I always think that is so important to the young pups so she's having snuggle time with mum very strictly supervised!! Hopefully mum just has found it a bit overwhelming and just took a few days to work out what was going on, she's been looking for her baby today and watching her in the box so thats a good sign...

She looks to have a nice full tummy in those pics, and really good news that mum if beginning to accept her. If she would even top and tail her it would be great wouldn't it. I of course think Evey is a great name, no matter how you spell it.:p
She looks to be a huge pup, how on earth did poor mum fit 3 in!

Mum has suddenly turned into mother of the year, i think something has suddenly clicked and her maternal instinct has kicked in! She is feeding her ok (although has little milk so its more for comfort for the pup, im still supplementing her feeds) and cleaning her up. Very odd!

Little Evey was the smallest of the 3, she was 2oz at birth (now currently 2 1/2!) the boys were both 2 1/2! Dont know how Pixie fitted them all in, although she was enormous lol!

And we are doing Evey with a Y cos of the movie character :P And, of course, to be different!!

Someone told me the little bub might be long coat cos of the ridge down her back... Will be interesting to see if thats true, i''ve always wanted a long coat :D

Wow, what a turn around for Mum. Fingers crossed for Evey that she continues to improve. How sad for the 2 that you lost :(

Aw, bless her she looks like a little doormouse!

Its so sad about the two we lost, BUT, little Evey is doing well, gaining weight albeit slowly. She is a sweetie. Mum adores her now... Very odd! Never had that before, i've had pug mums not interested in the pupss for a few days but never attack them, and then to decide she loves them...!! She is besotted with her baby now. I wont ever trust her to be with it without close supervision, just incase.. But its just a strange situation. I could understand if she'd had a caesarian, but all 3 were born naturally so its really odd...

Anyway, pics of mum and baby today :)

Aw thats so lovelly to see those last pictures. I didnt realise that you were expecting a litter (do you still use TO?) and did think before i saw the pics that it might be a chi! I know with the poms how difficult it can be for them and have a friend who has gone through an ordeal with a foster puppy.

i so hope she makes it for you.

aww bless them
sorry about the ones you lost
glad shes started to bond with her now

my b/w whippy and siblings were orphaned their mother died and was all hand reared and survived and doing well..they are a year old now
also my friends lab had 8/9 pups and for unknown reason the mother ate one
why!! just dont know
the other labs were fit and healthy
this was a few years ago

just read on another forum a bitch had 9 pups and 5 died automacially and then within 24 hrs another 2 died,so they are praying for the others to survived as this was a planned litter and was so loking forward to it

Aww!!! Glad mum has settled and Evey is doing well :D

Just reminded me how tiny my Bridget was, Evey - 2/2 half oz and Bridget (the Midget) - 4oz and she should have been close to or bang on 1lb!

Thanks everyone :) She is doing really well, I think shes going to be a real character :D

Thank you :D I rarely use TO anymore, I find it childish and most of the threads there dont interest me. But occassionally I will post there if im bored :D

Just to let you all know Evie is still doing well, currently snuggled up asleep in my clevage  She likes snuggling down there :D My rats do that too lol!

She just weighed in at 82g after her last feed, which is nearly 10g up from yesterday morning :D She's definately going the right way, maybe all those positive thoughts are helping! :D

Thought you all might like to see these pictures taken of baby today. She is quite the wriggler now so they are not the best photos. I've been told she may turn out to be long coat, which would be lovely as I have been wanting a long coat chihuahua for ages :) She still continues to have a healthy appetite and is growing well (94g today).
