Looking for advice please. We have agreed to let our eldest puppy walk for hearing dogs with me as back up. All checks passed and puppy arriving next week. Now the problem. It arrived with first jab. Daughter working some of Saturday and rest of family invited to picnic in the new forest. I can't go can I even with a crate for puppy and umpteen supervising adults. Our dog and friends dog fully vaccinated. Is there anyway I can go or will I be waving them all off while puppy and I stay home.
 
Personally I wouldn't. The pup seeing everything going on while it's crated will be stressful I would think. It's not the fact that the dogs you are with are vaccinated, but they can pick up all sorts from dogs that aren't, plus from the ground, you don't know what's been walking there. I wouldn't be taking any risks, it's not worth it. I would either find a puppy sitter or I wouldn't go (but then family picnics don't appeal to me that much anyway :lol: )
 
I live in the New Forest and I would not take a not fully immunised dog out in it either. Too many dogs being walked there as well as foxes, badgers and other wildlife who can carry diseases and leave their urine and faeces behind. However you manage it there is also a risk it is going to prove quite stressful with the heat, the journey, a strange venue and people.
 
Thank you bothfor confirming my thoughts. Looks like me and puppy will stay home this time. I'm excited to meet him.
 
I have no idea how far away you live but could you go when your daughter gets home? What sort of puppy is he? (Breed wise) I think they have a lot of cockerpoos? I follow them on FB.
 
We are an hour away so in all probability it wontvwork unless her shrift is in the evening. It's a poodle, a bit as we have an entire male ourselves. I just asked if we could have a far coloured one as current dog is very light and looks particularly grubby!

A really good book is ‘Puppy Training, the Guide Dogs Way. There’s a lot of basic advice for first timers but also excellent advice regarding socialisation when pups are very young.
