posting for a friend, not me :)

How much do a puppys vaccinations cost, and do the RSPCA/PDSA do them?

If someone could do an approximat cost of a puppy, vaccinations, microchip etc then i'd be really grateful :)

thanks :)

Sorry, but that's a 'how long is a piece of string' question :o

Puppy can be anything from free-£1000s, depending on the type/breed and where you get it from.

Sadly dogs aren't something you can put a nice round guaranteed figure on!

My pup's last vacc was £14 and he cost £500, he would have been £1000 direct from breeder. The next person who posts will probably tell you two completely different figures.

Last booster vac was £27 including consultation, initial puppy course could feasibly be double that.

Microchip was similar, something like £22.

Spaying for a 20-25kg dog was £180.

Original numpty owner paid over £800 for actual puppy.

Insurance £12 per month, would be higher for some breeds.

Total vet bill for first year (vacc/spay/illness/accident/routine flea and worming) was a fraction under £700. :o

Crate/bed/bowls/toys/collars/leads/harnesses/treats - I wouldn't like to imagine.

As CC said, cost varies depending on area reatly. The PDSA do vaccinate but you do have to be in receipt of means tested benefit and there is still a charge for the vaccines although a fraction cheaper than private practice.
The RSPCA vet clinics also vaccinate I believe but again there is a benefit system too and it's a bit different form that of the PDSA's.
A puppy..........well indeed, what kind/quality, from a good breeder or back street breeder?

Sorry, didn't type clearly, I didn't mean the cost of the actual puppy, I meant the cost of keeping a puppy! Sorry! And thanks :) is your dog a german shepard?

Again, it's a how long is a piece of string question, who knows what will happen!
My older male cost £300 at six months, he has cost a couple of grand at least in vet bills between one thing and another in three years.
The dog before that, £200 at nine months old, was only ever at the vet once and it was her last trip.
The one before that, broke a leg in a road accident at six months and had to have it pinned, you have to prepare for all eventualities, dog's ain't cheap.
Expect to pay £300 plus (probably more like £500 these days :o) for a quality German Shepherd pup with five generations of health-tested parents.

A huge variation!!
Our GSD is 11 y/o and since she was 2 has cost us approx 9,000 pounds in vets bills (that's at her referral clinic, not counting the normal vets!)
Now on antibs, indigestion tabs etc for pancreatitis, so add that too...she is most definitely a V.I.P (very important pooch) and now gets her own waiting area space (as she's grumpy!) and only sees the senior vet...;)
Fat free food and biscuits...not really cheap...particularly the chicken mince and pasta...:rolleyes:
Then there's leads, collars, bowls, brushes, beds, toys etc etc - wouldn't like to imagine!
I think when she was a puppy her vaccs were about 18 pounds but don't hold me to that it was a while ago! :o
Times that (except the vets bills) by 2 for both our dogs....

Saying that, they bring us the utmost amount of joy and we are very privileged to have them in our lives :)

ETA - and to add my Dad can't buy his much loved Nissan Juke as we can't fit the dogs in the boot!!!!! :D

The fact you are asking if charities do vaccinations says to me they will be on a budget?? correct me if I am wrong :-)

If this is the case I really wouldn't recommend a GSD puppy.

Or any big dog for that matter, most things are done on size and weight, so when it comes to neutering the anaesthetic will be done on size, worming will be more expensive for example :-

if you had a terrer weighing 10kg for most drugs, antibiotics etc you would need say 1 tablet for arguements sake say it cost 50p per pill, if you had a large breed say 30-40kg you are talking 3-4 tablets £2 once or twice a day!

Also if you didn't get a very well bred dog you could have some terrible conditions with a GSD resulting in hundreds and thousands of pounds, they also need a good diet and are very sensitive dogs..... I am generalising of course but hope this gives you some kind of insight!

Of course money might not be an issue and I might be going on for no reason :-)

Prices will vary hugely. Mine are / were:

Border Terrier puppy - £350 (although the rest of the litter sold for £450 - I had mates rates:p)

Mums Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy cost £900!!

Vacc's - £50 ish for both first vacc's, first booster is due at the end of the month so I'm not sure how much that is!

Crate - £50 ish and she needs a new one!

Bed - £20 - £30 a pop and we have been through a fair few. My mums puppy went through one a week for a good while!

I dread to think what worming / flea treatment / treats / toys / leads / collars etc have added up to over the year :o
