Puppy Vaccine problems

Hi All, first time posting on this page so apologies if I'm going over old ground...

I picked up my new Boxer puppy last week. He had his first vaccination before I got him so I phoned our vet yesterday to arrange the second jab. Only to be told that as they use a different vaccine they were have to start the course again. I rang the other vet we use and they told me the same thing.

I wish I didnt have to start again, not due to expense so much as I'm worried about having so much swishing about inside of him. Also it's delaying the time until I can take Stanley out and about with me.

What would you do?
 
the drug companies have recently changed their stand on this and all the vaccines are now said to be compatible, so i would phone the 2 drug companies direct and see what they say-some of our receptionist have been b***ocked in the lasy 2 wks for giving out incorrect information on this as it is fairly new i think they just got caught out
 
I bought in a puppy, she'd already had her first jab, I took her to my vet, who whilst they said that they would give the second jab, alone, they recommended starting again.

If you're prepared to risk it, such as the risk would be (?), then I suspect that if you tell the vet what you want, as opposed to asking, that may work better!! If they refuse, then it's back to the Yellow Pages! ;)

I'd be interested to hear of the outcome, as jools1234 may well be right.

I work at a vets and tbh most people who get a puppy that has had it's first vx done-don't know what the vaccine was. We do the 2nd vaccine regardless. If you are worried then phone both vaccine companies and ask.

Most vaccines from different companies are thought to be compatible, but of course a company isn't going to spend it's money on another company to test that, they will only test within their company (I think?? Correct me if I'm wrong?)

Hello, thanks for your replies. I've phoned round all the local vets and they're all saying the same (8 that I tried!) that they would want to start the course again. I'm worried that not following recommendations will cause problems with insurance as I've had to use insurance in the past and know how valuable it can be.
A big thing for me is timescale, with an energetic boxer pup, i want to get him out and about as soon as possible. So I called the original vets and have arranged to take him for his second jab next week. It's an hour away but it means I only have to get one jab, and he can go out sooner.

Is the first jab he got parvo only by any chance?

Because if it is then a full course would still be needed to protect against the other diseases lepto adeno ..etc.....
