She's 10 months old, and no longer a puppy, but a proper laydee now! Feels very strange, am quite proud, but a bit sad too!

She's also doing lots of odd things, like burying toys round the house, and she's extra clingy with me. And she only wants to play with the boy dogs (don't worry, she's only mixing with gelded ones!)

She is also dripping a lot of blood everywhere, which is not very pleasant. Are there doggy tampons or nappies available??!!!

No - sadly no such thing! A lot of dogs can be quite upset by their seasons. Remember she will be at her most fertile once the bleeding has stopped. If you are not planning to breed from her I would suggest you have her spayed.

Yes there is, you can get pant type things for bitches in season but seeing as our floors our tiled and our bitches stay in their own room we don't bother.

I would speak to your vet before having her spayed, mine suggests a certain time period after a season before having them done to allow hormones to get back to normal. You may find if she's behaving like this that she might have a phantom pregnancy.

I was only joking about the dog nappies or tampons!! I mean, come on!!! Ours would probably eat them anyway, being a lab.

I realise my post might have made me sound like a complete dog novice, but I have had dogs all my life, including bitches on heat!

Some bitches drip more than others, and it looks like she's a drippy one. Lovely.

We're not having her spayed as we would like the option of breeding from her one day. She's a lovely type from a line of very good gun dogs.

I don't think she's having a phantom pregnancy, just doing a bit of mild nesting, but we shall see...

It was just a proud moment I wanted to share with you all! Puppy's first season!

Mine had her's at 9months last month!! Luckily I kept an eye out for her swelling as she was a very clean dog & did not drip once!! Which is great seeing as I don't have an outside kennel for her. She became clingy as well through her season but no nesting!
She too is from gundog stock & I'm training & if she turns out good enough then I hope to breed from her too!!

Ahh, bless! You're so lucky she wasn't too messy!

Funny that she became more clingy to me, never had that before with a bitch. Perhaps she wants me to help her look after her babies!

Sweet, isn't it.

I would love to have a litter with her one day, but we'll just see how good she turns out to be, and whether she'd be OK physically. She's been quite a handful, but very bright and trainable.

Oh bless - she's a layyydddeee!!

I was sooooo excited when Finny cocked his leg a few weeks ago I sent a text to every saying...

"YAY he's cocked"

Erm hence to say I got some strange replies as I hadn't explained who!!

Ditto! I think you may have my pups sister!!!!!

Was very impressed with her keeping herself clean!

Of course she clung to you she wanted her Mummy!!
Mine is like a shadow!! If I go into another rooms she will follow unless in unconsious sleep & I sneak out!
Mine started being sick & diarrohea when she had her season, think her hormones where having a party!!

KJFIT - I'm glad I'm not the only 1!! I was so pleased with Jim the first time he did that

Petrie - I know you were joking but there really are pants for bitches in season.

LMAO!!

No one had any say in the matter once she arrived!! She tried to get away (her first mating) and he just scooped her back with one paw and got on with it!! VERY embarressing!

He's no gentleman - even faster the second time round

Told the lady who owns his dad, who happens to be faster than Jim, being more experienced, and she sent an email back saying "Tak says 'That's me boy!' " LMAO

Our lurcher is so clean that we have not even noticed her having a season and she is 2 now. Luckily we only have bitches or we might have had even extra-cross bred lurchers by now

My labrador had her first season on her 1st birthday, a real late starter, I hated the mess, but she was so good and wasn't really any different, the only thing was I usually take her to the farm to do my daughters pony where her mum, dad and brother are and she couldn't come up with me for 3 wks as we didn't want any incest, so she was a bit upset about being left at home.
