As per title. Which is more effective? Mare is currently on Oestress but not sure it is working so may try pure chaste berry

Following!

My dirty mare bag is on Oestress and i'm not entirely sure its having any effect, I have started adding agnus castus (Chaste berry) too so when the Oestress finishes I will carry on with the agnus castus and see what, if any good it does.

I switched my moody dominant mare from Oestress to agnus castus a few weeks ago. She is far less rude and moody on agnus castus but still very squirty.

Sorry to hijack OP.....

Old Bat, mine isn't rude she is over sensitive and never stops squirting, she has been in and out of season since late Feb time, currently been squirting continuously for circa 8 weeks!!!
Have you noticed if the agnus castus has helped regular things a little more?

I have used Oestraban from Gold Label for my gelding as a hormone balancer - its main active ingredient is agnus castus (chaste berry) - and it worked well to stop him stressing out and being so sharp. Unfortunately, I wouldn't know how effective it would be for trying to regulate a mares cycle.
There are other synthetic options such as Regumate or a marble; but I think these tend to be for more extreme problems regarding mare's seasons(?) [I think] but maybe it would be worth for you too look into.

Hope you can find a suitable solution soon!

Have found chaste berry to work really well, helped spooky pony last year when you could literally feel her cramps if you tried to ride her when she was in season :(

Our mare seems to be 10 days in season, 10 days off, since mid March. We put her on Frisky Mare + but it made no difference to her moods (she is normally really affectionate but when in season she just doesnt want to be groomed or tacked up). She's been on Agnes Castus for about 10 days and I only realised she was in season yesterday because she was squirting at the gelding next door.

It's a bit early to tell how much it is helping, but her mood yesterday was totally different to how she's been when in season previously.

I switched from Oestress to Agnus Castus powder last year for my tarty mare who is a total nightmare when in season, constantly squirting and rubbing up things, and I have to say I have had amazing results. I have found that by giving her 1 scoop a day all summer does it, it means that even though she still comes into season, its really hard to tell when she is. The only time she is a sod is her first and last season of the year as she is really over the top with those but that's fine by me if it curbs it for the rest of the summer.

When she has a bad season I just double her usual daily dose until it has finished and that takes the edge off. Fantastic stuff and much cheaper than Oestress which I was using before and feeding double the amount of!

So maybe try starting on a higher dose and then drop it down? I think that's what I did when I started it.

Will follow this thread. My tub of oestress is nearly empty and my angus cactus arrived today. Sounds like there's a few in the same boat as myself trying to change over,

Chasterberry, AgnusCastus, Monkspepper are all the same thing, and the core ingredient of most of the hormonal herbal supplements (including Oestress). The main issue with it in its pure form is that many horses will not eat it. So might be better off with the supplements mixes so that it is more palatable. If it is not working probably need a stronger dose or something completely different.

I'm using this for my wb mare, it's helped loads.
If when spring comes and her seasons get worse again then there is an injection to stop them
