Thinking of switching all my horses onto Pure Feed to make things simpler using their complete feeds.
Struggling to find stockists and delivery charges are obviously dear. So want to make sure it is worth it. I don’t have space to store 15 bags for free delivery…
Are your horses looking and feeling well on it? I’m considering Fibre balance for those at grass and Easy for the ones in consistent work. Looking for reviews and if not, what would you recommend?

11hh Welsh 18yo at grass occasionally LR rides but absolutely nothing strenuous.
12hh Welsh c 7yo ridden 5ish days a week, hunting, pony club, SJ but chubby no matter the work load ha!
15.2hh 4yo in the field after breaking to continue growing over winter

Thanks!

Have been using Pure for over 10 years. Tried Simple a couple of years ago and my horses wouldn't eat it.
They're on Fibre Balance and get a level round scoop a day for big ones and a handful for Shetland so very cheap. Have to travel 30 mins each way to buy it.
I have 2 big ones in full work and competing on it. Easy is great in the winter but mine don't need the extra calories yet as out 24/7.
When eventing used their comp mix a few days before. You can mix and match between feeds as all same base and ride immediately after feeding.

I love the idea of Pure and used to feed it, but sadly it wasn't suited to Baggs so I ended up coming away from it. It's such a shame as I really do love the concept of their feeds and the ingredients seem good and no hidden nasties like molasses etc.

I had Baggs on the Pure Condition as he is prone to loosing weight in the colder months, and in the warmer months I had him on Pure Working. He ate both types of the feed with gusto and licked his bucket clean and then some, so I can safely say it is fussy pony approved, but he just lost a lot of weight and I ended up having to buy extra feed in to help him maintain his weight.

I rang Pure who were mega helpful and spoke to me for over 2 hours, explained my situation and asked what they would do, and they were honest in saying that it sounds like I would be better off not using them as the feed isn't working for Baggs. We did a thorough diet breakdown and covered all basis of what amount he was getting, how long he was turned out for, his work load etc - so the phone call was mega thorough and we left no stone unturned.

I'd happily recommend you give them a phone call - I'm no way endorsed or sponsored by them, but I will shout from the rooftops if a company has fab customer service - and these guys are really good on that front :)

Regarding what I feed now, I feed Speedibeet and Alfalfa chaff - Baggs is prone to ulcers and is a fussy sod, and this is what he is happy on, keeps his weight at a stable level, and I can adjust to suit his workload. I also feed the same but in different quantity to Rabbit who is my 2.5 year old. Both boys have shiny coats, chilled temperaments and I find the feed lasts a decent time.

If your guys don't need a massive feed - have you thought of something along the lines of speedibeet or a mash that fluffs up nicely but isn't mega high in calories? Might be easier for you to source if you struggle with Pure x

I find that often with complete feeds, you have to feed so much of it for it to actually be complete, it renders it a waste of time.

Pure Working for example - feeding guide for you to get the full benefits of the sufficient amount of all the balancer/additives/minerals etc

Dex would therefore have to eat 2.8-4.2kg of this feed per day, meaning a £25 bag would last 3-5 days - total feeding cost per month: £146-221 per month. And if you don't feed at the full rate, then you may as well just feed a different feed/chaff and supplement.

For comparison sake he currently gets a mug full of Dengie Happy Hoof Mollasses Free per day, an £18.75 bag lasts him all month and he also gets a vits and mins supplement for £20 for 2 months worth, or £10 per month.

I've never fed it at recommended amounts. My horses would explode! They all do really well on a level scoop per day so a bag lasts over a week between 2 horses and the small one.
I have spoken alot to Pure (daughter was sponsored by them when she was eventing) and it's fine to feed as needed.

I think it’s fine to feed most things as needed but you do then need to be feeding a balancer/ vit+min too it depends what you want out of it.

I’ve always thought it expensive for what it is/was easier to feed the straights and supplement instead

And this applies to virtually every other branded feedstuff, also!
(Small wonder we now have so many overweight horses with dietary and digestive issues)
I’d second these are a decent company to buy from, and ask advice of.

Love it!! I've had my Welsh D on Pure Fibre Balance for over a year, she looks amazing on it and haven't needed to bother with any other supplements etc (other than her joint supplement).
She's in a reasonable amount of work, 4 or so days a week of moderate work (hacking, schooling and competes/clinic most weeks) and its been great. It doesn't heat her up or anything.

I actually thought the Pure Easy would be the one to go for but the company suggested Fibre Balance and its been perfect.

Also I asked my feed supplier if they could get it for me and they just order two or 3 bags at a time and re-order as I use them, there isn't much demand for it other than me!

Those recommended feeding amounts assume that you're not giving them other sources of Vits and Mins, though, don't they? Mine have forage, meadow grasses, herbs and flowers, but access to trees and shrubbery.

I don't feed a supplement aside from Pure Easy and they've not dropped dead yet (my mare I've had for 17 years). Occasionally I've had to buy something else (supply issues, or I haven't had time to visit stockists), but I always go back to it, as most alternatives are either £££ or include alfalfa and garlic. I either switch to Pure Condition in the winter or add linseed (currently have nearly a full sack, so will do the latter until that runs out around January!). The only other thing I add in is brewer's yeast, bought from a fishing bait supplier!
