I am looking at different feeds for my girls at the moment, brought about by the lack of work in this weather and the complete loopiness of them on reduced amounts of their current hard feed. I do understand that because they are working less they are likely to be a bit frisky, but it has prompted me to do a bit of research.

I have fed Winergy Equilibrium in the past & it worked very well but was quite pricey. A friend of mine has suggested the Pure Feed Company and assured me that it is a similar type of feed but would work out cheaper ( looking at their prices per bag I don;t think it actually would be any cheaper ).

I have searched for past posts on this & there doesn't seem to be much on here but it has good comments from those that have used it.

Can anyone give me more feedback on it please? It will be a pain to order it in so I need to be sure it's worth it before giving it a try.

I cant help too much as ive only just gone onto it.

I won a months worth of 'Pure Working' on a facebook comp.


I switched onto it gradually and competed at a big show soon after with good results.

The feed in itself seems palatable, and i like the fact it has a balancer in it already.

I am thinking of keeping my ridden horses on it - however my youngsters will stay on cubes and chaff as it is far far cheaper!

Only negative would be the price seeing as the bags are only 15kg.
 
I was reccomended to feed it to my mare who was underweight at the time. I found it did nothing for her. It made her silly, brought out her quirky side, and as a result of that she lost weight through stressing.
 
Thanks eeyore28, perhaps you could keep me updated once you have been on it for a while.

I have a few concerns about it, the first being the price as it's roughly the same price as Winergy Equilibrium which is also a 15kg bag. I am also a bit wary of whether the balancer in it is of a similar quality to say Blue Chip or TopSpec as for the money it would need to be a top notch balancer.

I have also tried Simple Systems in the past with no success at all - the horses got bored of it and lacked energy - so I am wondering if I would have the same issues with this.

One of mine is quite a quirky girl, I call it character ;) so I can't chance excerbating that!
 
I won what should have been 12 bags, only 6 turned up as they said it was a printing mistake, so a bitter sweet win, Anyway i had 6 bags of pure condition, am feeding it to a cob who is a good do'er? I feed mainly a good big 2 scoops of hifi original, 2 good scoops of sugar beet and 1 scoop of the pure feed, along with codlivine and codlivine joint, twice aday, she has maintained her weight, but has only been ridden once in 3 weeks because of weather, she has gone out this morning, and not come back yet, so will let you know if she is fizzy or not, she seems to like it, and believe me she can be fussy!.., but I belive that to be the codlivine ,dont know the price of it? but only 15kg bags, so would imagin it would work out expensive, she has a shine (without much brushing) that you could see your face in, but I believe that to be the codlivine, have used it for years, and swear by it, to be honest, I dont think It is as good as the D&H condition mix, and there is cheeper feed stuff, that would be as good.
 
Thanks Quickfire, I would be feeding it on it's own so wouldn't have the cost of Hi-Fi and sugarbeet. It's about £14 a bag for 15kg so the same price as Winergy Equilibrium and I can get that much easier.

I would think if you are feeding codlivine then a lot of the shine could be down to that - would be interesting to know how shiny it makes the coats when fed on it's own.

Still undecided :confused:

The 'printing error' is a bit of a bummer though, you'd think they would honour the 12 bags wouldn't you?!!
 
The competition was through a magazine, it said 12 bags for one lucky winner, when it should have said 1 bag for 12 winners, so to get 6 was a bonus really,
Well mare went out for a brisk ride accross the moors, and daughter said that she was a bit dead to the leg and lacking energy, so I can report that the pure condition, is fine for maintainence, but not energy, so when I have finished what we have won will be going back to D&H comp mix....
 
We had a few customers move onto it, recommended to use it by the local horse vet (who also uses it). We have had a few issues with it, supply has been patchy, quality has been variable, and I think there was a complete mix up one day - a customer brought a bag back, he said that he'd bought the same bag a month ago (the balancer) and that had nothing but pellets in it, whereas the second bag was mainly chaff - he went back to Dengie. Many customers on doing the money calculations have dropped it. Out of the people who've tried it, the only one whose stuck is the vet - we recommend customers look at the ingredients, and make an educated choice on what to feed.
 
Also forgot to mention, I am not sure what bags the feed normally come in but mine arrived in plain white weave type bags and there was a lot of the loose weave in with the mix, like very thin ribbons, have been picking them out when making up the feeds.

I'm not sure why it had that effect on her, she is normally quite placid. It was definatly the feed though as when we took her off it the behaviour stopped. She was on simple sytems before but lacked oomph, which is why we changed to pure feeds co.

She is now on alfa a oil, topspec cool conditon, topspec balancer and speedibeet and she is looking the best she ever has. She also has the right amount of energy and isn't silly in most situations.
 
Tried my young gelding on their working mix and yeah he looks good and he works well, but no more then before and the price is prohibitive compared to his usual (Alpha A Oil and Globalvite powder) -- the rep I spoke to said it would work out cheaper, but I don't see how that's possible.
 
i'd be interested to know how people get on with this, I've looked at it a few times, and always discounted it on the convenience (or lack of) for getting hold of it.

I'm currently feeding alfa oil, just grass, baileys stud balancer and speedibeet. The just grass is really only while we've got snow and no grass, but the boys seem to like it so it may stay. This is sufficient energy for a hot, quirky horse who is hunting twice a week and for a cold horse who is roughed off!
 
Thank you everyone. I get the impression it may not be worth me trying to order it in view of some of the comments. I do think my girls would lack sparkle on it, and I need to make sure they have enough energy for hunting which they definately didn't have when they were on Simple Systems.

My friend gave me a scoop of the Pure Easy last night & it looks very 'clean' if that makes sense, and the horses ate it readily, but I think the cost and some of the issues people have mentioned would stop me from buying it.

I've used it on my horses. It was good, but went back to Primero Total Equine as it worked out much cheaper. It's about the same price per bag, but comes in 20kg bag and recommended feeding rate is 1kg per day instead of 2.
 
I couldnt recommend Pure more highly. It has been a godsend for my Lusitano who suffered from gastric ulcers, and also two of my older horses with metabolic problems. All look extremely well on it, eat it readily, unlike some other fibre based feeds, and keep excellent topline.

I am sponsored for my feed by Pure, but cannot promote anything that I do not believe in 150%. I would buy the feed, without question, if I did not receive it in return for promotion. Because it has 'everything in the bag', so to speak, you do not need to feed other additives which means that it is not as costly as one would think. A number of my friends have found this to be the case when switching to it

The company is a joy to deal with, absolute integrity and always ready to help.

I have received my feeding plan from the company today after e-mailing them at the weekend, so that's pretty good service.

I will do a bit more research and then make a decision - it's never easy is it!

Personally im really surprised to read some negative comments about this feed - I changed my 2 horses onto it abotu 6 months ago and they've never looked or gone better. i have 1 very fizzy eventer and she became so much more consistent on the feed - so much easier to ride and her dressage scores have impreoved no end. my other horse lost a lot of weight last winter, but i couldn't feed her up because she just went loopy, not matter what i tried, so i just had to wait for the grass to grow to get weight on her (and the grass was so late it took forever!) but this winter i've had her on pure condition. she's been on hols for the last month out on grass (exact same field as last winter), but this year i fed her a scoop of condition a day and they both came back in a week ago and look a million dollars...they've put on weight and have really shiney coats even tho they've obviously not been brushed or anything as they've been out! i've been so impressed i've even recommended the feed to a few of my friends and 2 have started their horses on it with good results so far. every horse is different though and there's prob not a feed that would work for every single horse? i did wonder about the bags - the condition i got was in the sack type bags rather than the proper bags so i rang the company and they said they ran out and have been waiting for new ones to come in. hopefully the new ones come in soon! seriously though...from my point of view i can't find any fault at all with the feed. i think it's even costing me less than what i was feeding before as i used to feed a vit supplements whch i was told i didn't need to feed with this as was told that as its very concentrated you don't need to feed as much as other feeds to get the same results. my young horse also used to have really runny poos before going on pure and now they're much more normall...still elephant sized, but more horse like than cows!! lol
