Pure Irish Draught as a leisure horse?

While I love RID I am not a fan of the ID/ TB 50 % crosses unless they are in the 7/8th type very near TB type .
I think their temperaments are too variable and their conformation often is heavy topped and while I have bought older ones mature and 'finished ' for their skills I would never buy one as a project for myself .
 
It's very hard Goldenstar to know how the half breds/parts breds will turn out. I would agree that they tend to be a little overtopped, and lack bone

However, this is our half bred - he's by a National Hunt sire, out of an English Irish Draught mare. He's like s TB on steroids. TB brain, TB looks, draught quality feet and coat, though, thankfully! And stamina to die for. He jumps like a NH horse, not a draught though

He is staying right here. No amount of money could make me part with him.
I am hoping to qualify him for hoys in the coloureds and small hunters next year.
I trust him with my life.
I had a very bad accident jumping a 10yrs ago and haven't jumped since, haven't wanted to at all and the mere hint that my instructor was going to get the jumps out would leave me in tears. However with Lenny I feel so safe that I actually asked my instructor to help me teach him to jump and we have even done a small (1ft) course together, I shook the whole way round, I don't think I breathed and I deffinatly put him at a few of the jumps wrong. But he sorted himself out, did his lovely little pingy canter, sorted out the messes I got him into and looked after me, it was only the third time he had jumped and his first time seeing coloured poles.
He just feels safe
 
Beautiful horses, makes me even more keen to find my perfect ID. I've got my heart set of a pure bred as I need it to be a weight carrier. Let the search commence. lol

I would never part with my common as muck Irish Cob but am starting to think he might like a big friend to play with….!

The Bay boy is pretty tough - he's 18 in that photo :-)

I won't bore you all with our others but we have 3 pure draughts, and 2 x 3/4 draughts 1/4 TBs - they're all physically and mentally really different but are all genuine guys who want to work with the rider.

They're all Irish Irish draughts too :-)

Sorted that out for you............big, yes. Friendly, yes. Irish, 50% the rest is Shire. Send me a stamped addressed jiffy bag and I will post him.

Mine is only 15.2hh but happily carts my 13st around without issue.
 
I'm just joking! lol CB's are simply beautiful and I'd be more than happy to have one in my stables. I love their intelligence and grace, but I love ID's too!!....and they seem easier to find.
