Sorry, not the question you asked but has anyone suggested packing it daily with copper sulphate crystals? I had a horse a few years back with the typical canker "fingers" and that kept it well under control.

At the moment we are under control with daily dressing of a mix of iodine, surgical sprit, crushed antibiotic tablets and copper sulphate. There is very little active infection but the heels and sulci are just not hardening up - at least not on the hinds. The infected forefeet cleared about 2 months ago. The heel bulbs and sulci are still really boggy and prone to bleed. The iodine and surgical spirit irritate the flesh so every 3 days we take a day out and use tetramycin only. He is also on cortisone cream to try to protect the intact flesh. We have just started wonderdust to see if we can get improvement with that. But both vet and farrier have reccommended purple mush - but both also accept that although both they know folk in the UK who have used it to great effect - they also don't know where to get it!

Pony is 30. Has negative Cushings and ACTH stim tests. He is not turned out right now - our feilds are mush.

You can buy the essential oil on ebay but I've no idea what strength that product would use it at. Canker is really difficult to manage, sympathies.
