don't know but when Ty had start of mudfever on his heels (very pink and sore) it cleared it up in a day - not sure if it's the best thing to use but it's pretty good.
I jumped Blue at a show once and he cut the top of his bum above his tail in the trailer on the way there so we put purple spray on it (purple on white bum showed up quite a lot) and i came 6th and they gave me a purple rosette i think they were taking the p!ss was quite funny though really!!

I think you're right. I'm also sure my vet told me 'proper' purple spray is in fact blue (which is what I've got) and the purple stuff isn't as effective.
I've no idea what's in the purple purple spray though.
My vets advise not to use the purple spray that you buy in tacks shops, it is no where near the same stuff as a vet uses. He also advises against wound powder as it drys up the wound & hinders the healing process by drying & killing cells around the wound. He wants the opposite, wash it out, keep it cklean & moist & call him.
Beware the purple and blue spray!
When I ran a yard in Fife, I sprayed a horse's (very minor) cuts and grazes with it, then turned him out in the field, next to holiday villa's.
Next thing I know, some holidaying fool has called the RSPCA to report me for graffiti-ing a horse. Can you imagine?
They came to inspect it and everything...so only spray your horse under cover of darkness.

I think what you are talking about is Terramycin (other name is Oxytetracycline). It is made by the drug company Pfizer. It's an antibiotic. That's what I understand to be the proper purple spray that you get form a vet.
