has anybody used septiclense instead?? i find it much easier to use than purple spray (you dont have to be so careful when you use it!!!)
my local saddlers stocks it, its aerosol and when its applied it clenses the cut aswell, i find it an excellent all round spray for small cuts!! (not to plug it at all!! haha!! anyone would think i get commission!!!!)
I was told by my vet not to bother with purple spray as the stuff that we buy in the tack shops is not the stuff that the vets use.
Additionally have also been told not to use wound powder, he prefers the wound to be kept moist as it has much more chance of healing. The drying effect of the powder isn't a good thing.
I have used Sept-cleanse, when my farrier recommended it for seedy toe, got into the gap easily and bubbled nicely. Not tried it on wounds yet.
Purple Spray used to be made from Gentian Violet, but was banned. The replacement stuff is nowhere near as effective.
the blue stuff is very good i dunno what it's called either, and purple spray is a b**** to get off. we had a young boy at our yard who kept stealing flyspray so someone took an empty bottle filled it with some water and purple spray as a trap, next day he walked in with a purple pony!!! i think he learnt his lesson lol!
The blue/green spray is called terramycin spray and I believe it is an antibiotic spray. I use it for my pony when she suffers from fly damage around her udder area - works brilliantly!
