Pus in an absess - what does a pink colour indicate?

I have already posted a similar thing under my other main posting but to cut a long story short, my pony has a possible absess. Been lame for a week now and with poulticing, still no sign of pus.

Farrier dug a little deeper and finally found some yesterday but said that it was a pinky colour which sometimes indicates that it is associated with a fracture. He is being hot poulticed on that area for 2 days then dry wrap with purple spray for 2 days. If still no improvements then more x-rays.

So what i'm asking, is what does different coloured pus mean. Nailhead on here indicated that pink pus can also be associated with a deep set absess which lets hope it does mean that.

Unfortunately the pus seems to be taking forever to come out. When I changed the poultice last night - there was no pus on the dressing which i was surprised at.

Any advice from people that may have a clue - because I dont!!
 
It could be tracking up along the hoof wall and it might break out along the coronet band. If I were you, I'd get a little syringe with some peroxide and swoosh it into the hole. Don't worry about the colour of the pus. It's FAR more likely that the pus is tracking up than your horse having a fracture. At some point x-rays might be useful to locate exactly where the pus is.
 
I was thinking just blood too. However I was going to look on net but I won't be doing that again anytime soon - clearly pink pus is very easily mistaken for something else in google land! very red face!

It could be blood which is a good thing, according to my farrier, who said that is an indicator that all the infected pus is draining out.

Mine had the same abscess twice. The first time, no blood and the abscess came back as it hadn't all drained out. Second time, there was blood and it never returned...
