Am I just unlucky?

Regen has just come back from the vets where he has got pus in the foot, in not one, but two feet.

So he and mum are now tucked up in a foaling box in the warm and dry while we address one foot at a time!

Maybe the wet weather has weakened his feet a little, coupled with the fact he was due a trim this Friday which meant they were a bit soft added to which he changed fields Saturday and had a lovely time showing off means his little hooves got a bashing - or else I am just unlucky and it's my own fault for buying a foal with three white legs and hooves!!!!

So healing vibes would be greatfully appreciated.

So far he has been an absolute star so good behaviour vibes would be a bonus as well.

I am a little concerned that his feet are going to be a problem anyone else with experience with foals and pus in the foot or am I just living up to my username?

Friend of mine has a yearling who has recently (or still) got pus in the foot in at least two, possibly three feet (never seen him, different county).

His feet are either white or mixed (not solid). Doesn't help that he is difficult to treat. What a nightmare.

It seems it is not as uncommon as we thought. Friend has just rung to say her colt had one this time last year too. Must be in part due to wet weather softening the hooves making them more prone to trauma.

So far he has been really good but really hoping it doesn't drag on or he may start to become a little difficult!

I had one of madmares colts in for an abcess. We poulticed it for 8 days and it still wasn't showing up any better - ie still pus on the poultice.

So we put him in the spa 3 times and that sorted it out straight away. If you have one local to you it might be worth looking at the option.

My foal has had 2 abcsesses. the farrier had a prod at them and a poultice did the trick. It seems to be the time of year as it's gone wet all of a sudden.

Farrier came yesterday and said his foal tips are coming away and they had gone really soft plus he needed a trim which combined with the wet weather had led to pus in his feet.

On a positive note he said the foot coming through is excellent so hopefully we won't have anymore problems.

He is currently sporting purple feet and looks very proud of himself!
