Put down or rehome??? Anyone help?

I agree with cc entirely, he sound just the sort of horse that an unscruplous dealer, would get hold of, dose up and sell on, for his sake and your peace of mind, although it will be difficult, PTS.

Very difficult, I would probably PTS unless he is mechanical rather than any pain lame. I would not sell but try for a loan home and I would also have him freezemarked with a L to show loss of use and hopefully that might help stop him being sold on should the loan home not be what it should have been.

So sad in such a young horse but people don't often want the big chaps as companions as too expensive to keep.

well you know I can't answer objectively! I think at the time the 2nd chance was easy and nobody expected to love a slightly nutty horse that acts like a huge Labrador!
I still hope something will turn up, but then if he is PTS - at least he got to go in the field and have a happy few months and you know he won't get passed on
I talked to Mum for ages about it but she is happy to pay for any horse, and if he lives for another 20 years, I'll be 45 and don't know what I'll be doing so it would be irresponsible of me to
Poor boy :-( fingers crossed

I work in orthopaedics and couldnt the meniscus be arthroscopically trimmed and debrided before making any decisions?

In a person, if the torn meniscus is not trimmed, it permanently prevents the joint functioning properly and is painful, eventually leading to arthritis.

I feel it is worth exploring this avenue. If this is not possible, then unfortunately, the kindest thing for the horse is pts.

I agree with the majority, sad as it is, have him PTS now and save him an uncertain future. He has had a second chance with you and its not worked. Do the right thing for him now.

Spaniel has taken the words right out of my mouth. I am in exactly the same position as you right now with a horse I have here.

I never feel guilty about having a horse pts, sad of course, but never guilty if it is the best thing in the circumstances. Horses don't know what is happening, they don't suffer for that particular decision of ours.
