Not sure if i am in the right area but seemed the most appropriate. I am currently considering putting my mare in foal seen as though my horsebox is currently off the road with little chance of being fixed before i qualify as a nurse in september... it has always been in the pipeline to breed off her to get my next horse and once that is broke she will go into hacking retirement, she has previously had a lovely foal 3.5 years which is still on my yard .

She is now 13 and i compete her dressage and showing although her confirmation isn't great she gets away with it by being an ex racer. My questions are:
* how do i know when to put her in foal, obviously when shes in season but is there a best time, do i get the vet do do a blood test to detirmine the best time?
* is it best for AI or natural both are an option to me

* after scanned in foal is any further veterinary attention required, if so what? although there are experience people on my yard with breeding i would prefer to have some information myself.

*when scanned in foal does any ridden work stop there or can she be lightly hacked until a certain point ?

She is full TB and 16.1 i am wanting something of similar height but more weight/bone to do the same job as her really dressage and showing. My initial thoughts are something warmblood/KWPN or ISH. I like quite fresh horses although not silly, i know you cannot gaurentee things with a foal but if anyone knows any nice stallions feel free to post/ message me.

some pics of her are here:

any other info would be great :)

Nice idea & I dont mean to be cruel ...but why breed ,there are so many horses out there in desperate need of a home! Save yourself some money & possible heartache.xx
