I was wondering what you guys did with putting your naked horses on the walker.

I have been putting on a exercise blanket with a roller but it's a bit of a faff. Was tempted to crank it up and leave her naked but it's not a huge circle (6 horses) and its on those rubber bricks so don't really want to do that in case if damaging legs.

I've seen horsewalking rugs, has anyone got one? Tempted to leave a sheet on but the hoss gets rubbed by everything!!

I know there's not much else but thought it might be worth asking what you guys do!

Thanks :)

When I had use of a horsewalker I would leave a turnout rug or stable rug on. The walker had a wooden fence for sides so unlikely for the rug to catch. All the other liveries did the same.

Put mine on Naked. It freaks me out a bit (the horse walker!), wouldn’t want anything to get caught. Anyway, sure they can manage to walk round for a bit with no rug on.

I was thinking about walker rugs, but I do have a woollen exercise sheet, roller and a breast girth and, though it is a fag to put it all on. I can't really justify shelling out for a walker rug instead.

You could always have a go at modifying your existing exercise sheet? The Eskadron ones are not much more than a large exercise sheet, by the look of them...

Or modify some old stable rugs you no longer use. I am assuming your walker is under cover? If not modify old turn out rugs. Our walker rugs are basically a medium filled stable rug the same size as an exercise sheet and then a webbing (similar to a x surcingle) strap which buckles across the chest. They also have a stitched on surcingle around the tummy so only 2 buckles to contend with. I think they would be easy to make, you'd just need to bind where you cut the shoulders off the old rugs to prevent fraying and loss of filling.

I have a Rambo one that I got secondhand and I actually use it a lot - she goes on the walker every day, on the treadmill at least once a week, loose schooled or spook-trained once or twice a week, sometimes lunged off just a cavesson, often walked in-hand and I use the rug for all of these things. It seems pretty solid. I don't think I'd need it if she wasn't regularly going on the walker in minus temperatures though.

A wool day rug folded up and back (so it crosses to protect withers, being mindful of the buckles) with a roller over the top. Very little fuss and doesn't move an inch whilst keeping them warm.

During the winter all mine go on everyday with whatever rugs they were wearing overnight. I just undo necks and front and fold back under a surcingle. they are warm whilst walking and no rubbed shoulders :D
