i am putting my horse on part loan for 3 days a week. I have him advertised on preloved and other websites and have had no responses. He is stabled in royton and I'm finding it hard to find anyone. I haven't advertised him on here yet and i don't want to pay £9 if it won't work. i was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do and wether it would be worth putting him up on here. Also i have never put a horse up for loan before so any tips on what i should be asking and looking for in a perspective sharer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
 
Have you tried local horsey groups on FB? I find there is a lot more response on there than through other websites.
 
Have you put ads up in local tack shops.

I've just got a sharer for Merryn. I advertised him on facebook and a local equine website. I had no responses for ages and got disshartened but after a while I had 4 people enquire all at the same time. (shareres are obviously like busses you wait ages for one then 4 come along all at once LOL) :)
I think this time of year is a difficult time to advertise though with winter aproaching fast. But don't give up hopefuly someone will come along soon :)
 
Might be worth sending the link to your ad (can PM me if you want) or sharing the wording on here so we can look at what you are offering/asking? I was a sharer for a number of years and found that many adverts were pretty poor to be honest when I was looking, never enough detail and not the right information I needed (often uncessary info and never the important bits!). So I'm happy to have a look if you would like?

As a rule (as a former sharer) I would always look on the following websites for a share/part loan:
1. Preloved
2. Horsemart
3. Equine Adverts
4. Facebook

I would want to know the following information:
1. Age of horse / mare or gelding / height of horse (you'd be amazed how many people wouldnt include this!)
2. Where the yard is (postcode in the advert ideally), what facilities the yard has (menage with lights, indoor school or outdoor school etc)
3. What I can and cant do with the horse - can the sharer compete? Can they hack out alone/in company/both? Can they jump? Can they have lessons Etc.
4. What is the horse like - what does it enjoy doing, what is his/her character, is it suitable for novices/beginners? Any health issues? etc
5. Details of the share - is the sharer expected to do chores and if so, what are they? How many days per week can they ride? What is the financial contribution? Why is the owner looking for a share? Etc
6. Photos! Photos of the horse being ridden mainly, not it dressed up in a silly hat etc.

If you are looking for someone more experienced to share your horse, chances are they will be adults who work. Therefore unless you have somewhere they can ride with lights (in the evenings during winter - dark!) then they probably wont be interested as not many people who are off during the day and are experienced adults exist. So if that is your case, i.e. no lights for evening riding in winter, that could be your reason. Or you could be asking for too much money, check how much other shares in your area are going for.

Part loan 3 days a week for confident novice + stabled in Royton, Lancashire. For part loan due to studying for exams.

Elkos is a loving 12-year-old 16.2 TB x ISH Gelding with very unique facial markings and a kind temperament.
He has a great stable temperament and is easy to handle. He loves everyone! He loves kids, cuddles and attention off everybody.

Recently Elkos was re-schooled for 5 weeks, he is extremely well behaved and always tries to please. Has good balance and 3 good solid paces.

Hacks alone and in company. Calm with cyclists, cars and farm traffic. Can spook.

Loves to jump. Has jumped 1.35 free jumping and has jumped a 1m professional course.
He is a very honest horse who looks after his rider.

I am happy for him to be taken to shows however this will be discussed depending on experience. I have never shown him however he has done hunting and jumping in the past.

We are looking for someone to loan 3 days a week 1 weekend day (you pick your days) for around 6 months. Must be confident novice+. Message me with any questions you may have. Genuine enquires only please. Price upon asking.

Part loan/share of a lovely TB x ISH 3 days per week (days negotiable), in Royton Lancashire. For part loan due to studying for exams.

Opportunity to compete for the right person. Whilst Elkos is a very genuine horse, he can occasionally spook and therefore is not a novice ride. I am asking for a contribution of {insert price} for 3 days per week (to include 1 weekend day). This will include the sharer doing {insert chores/routine etc - or if he is on full livery and sharer wont have to do anything but ride, say that} on their days.

Based on a fantastic friendly yard with {insert yard facilities - menage, with/without lights, off-road hacking, jumps, horse walker, indoor stabling etc}.

Why are you only looking for 6 months? That would put me off as a sharer - I used to always look for a long term share as when you part loan a horse you really build a bond with that horse, you love them as your own and if you know its only going to last a few months it becomes too hard to say goodbye. So either advertise this without the expiration date and see how you and the loaner get along, or if you are certain it has to be 6 months advertise for a rider and dont ask for a contribution - that way they are simply doing you a favour exercising your horse, and they know their purpose; to come along and ride without getting too attached. When you start investing money into a horse it does make it more difficult as they know they are contributing to its keep and wellbeing, which in turn makes the loaner care more about the horse as its their hard earned money they are spending on it.

Your advert isnt bad - but I'd want to know what the cost is going to be upfront as many sharers only share because they cant afford a horse, and therefore price is important. They need to know what the yard is like in terms of facilities, and if you take out the 6 month bit you might get better results.

Also keep in mind with preloved only people that have paid £5 can get in touch with new adverts - after 10 days you might get more replies as it then becomes free to contact you. Try Equine Adverts and Horsemart (and local FB horsey groups) as well if you havent already.

Reading your advert is a ay the main thing putting people off is that it is temporary (6months) and those 6 months are through the winter!

Most people want a long term share, those that are happy with short term usually want them through the summer!
 
I live very near to you and have seen lots and lots of adverts for shares and part loans all over the local Facebook horsey pages, so bear in mind there is a lot of competiton.

From what you've written, I would think that the six month bit would put 99% of the people off. Who wants to do all the hard work through the winter (and winter is awful here!) and then give the horse back in April/May when the shows and nice weather begins?

My other red flag is the jumping bit. From what you've put you're saying that the horse could go to any local show and jump round the open classes. Is that true? Or has the horse just happened to jump round a big course once... I had a horse that had done BSJA and BE that I put up for share. I had nothing but numpties that expected to compete straight away despite never having done much, thinking the horse would do it all for them. That's what your advert is going to attract. Do you want people flogging it round big jumps over facing it all the time, if it hasn't really jumped properly at that level..?

Lastly I would just say patience. It took months to find a good sharer, and I wasn't charging anything either.
