As long as the mare is hale and hearty I see absolutely no reason not to try her. Years ago, many TB mares were still foaling at the 28/29 years old - and producing winners!
Many years ago when Ari was standing in Dorset, he was sent a 21 year old maiden mare. This was natural covering and apparently she thought sex was great and used to drag the handler to the stallion. She took first time and delivered a healthy foal with no problems the following year!!
I think it is very dependant on the health of the mare but I think if she is fit and health it should be fine.
i said no simply from experience. we are putting todgie in foal this year even though she is at her best ridden wise that she has ever been, but because she is 14 and we felt that after 15 she woud be too old.
but to be honest if the mare is healthy and the vets says it is ok i cant see why not!
Yes, but I know of a person who was looking into putting a 17 year old in foal for her first foal, and couldn't get insurance to cover her if complications arose.
i know of 23 yo mares having their first fine.
depends on the mare
obviously the best time is before 12 in most mares.after that they CAN be more difficult to get and keep in foal.
my friend sent her mare to a stallion(run with) and she didnt concieve, she sent to her an AI stud the next year and they foound she had cysts and only one ovary was working so she would be difficult to get in foal.
the mare was about 20
