Putting Small Ponies on Loan

Just putting the feelers out really and seeing what's out there.
Montys jockey may be giving him up after this year and we are thinking of our options on what to do with him.
We could sell him but i dont like this really as i want to have some input in what happens with him forever
My first option would be trying to loan him out to someone to do M&M WHP, LR or simliar with him. He would need bringing on a bit more to be comptetive at it tho.
Do people loan small ponies to do this with? and what sort of job do you think he would be best at.
He is very good on lead rien but can be lazy off the lead rien with tiny jockeys
He has a big jump and loves it

Have often seen some ads on horsequest wanting LR/first ridden ponies like him so there should be someone interested. I think loaning might be preferable to some people as little riders soon grow big and loan ponies can be returned....

He's absolutely gorgeous and i can completely understand why you want an input in his life in the future. I know a woman who has 5 or 6 small ponies on loan as her children have out grown them. Much like you she is unwilling to sell them and has found great families who have small children who don't want the commitment of having to pay a lot for a pony which might be out grown in a year or two - or where the kids have lost interest.

She's been super lucky but spent a lot of time ensuring she got a good home. She feels wee ponies are more likely to be neglected because some people don't understand that they need the same care and attention as bigger ones, BUT they are less likely to be mistreated by riders etc.

Hope you can sort something out.

there is defo a market for leadrein loans. i'd bite your hand off in a couple of years for something like that when my small guys are a bit bigger.

my first ever pony (section a) was originally given to us on loan, and ended up living with us for another 20yrs until he was nearly 40.

I advertised Millie for loan for nearly a year and had very few phone calls about her, no one that phoned was suitable (she was advertised as a 2nd pony for confident rider and everyone who called was after a beginners pony

In the end I moved her up to where I work and she is being ridden by the 11 year old child I look after, she is going brilliantly (see siggy), is so much happier then she was when out of work and is gaining loads of experience.

Would this type of thing be an option for you? Keep him at home but get a little rider to come and ride/look after him? That way you would still be in control of what happens to him.

There may be more people looking for loan ponies now due to the credit crunch and not being able to buy so you may have more luck then I did!
 
Thats the situation we have at the moment, but the girl is out growing him after just 8 months!
He is only young still but loves to be doing things.
He is as safe as houses. his only bad point is if treated alot he does get a little nippy
 
Hes gorgeous but might need a bit of work on the jumping if hes going to be an all round PC type of lead rein pony - not many small people could stay on that leap!
I think you will easily loan him, contact your local DC I should think.

I have the jockey-she is too nervy to go off leadrein just yet. We had to let our Sec A go as he spooked her! ...now if only I could talk the other half into it!!!!
I wouldn't buy another lead rein as it broke her heart to let him go and having 2 ponies is not an option. I can't be the only one that thinks like this so I'd def say you would find a loan home for him!
( Or I could loan you a jockey.........she is house trained-sort of, good to bath, box and loves shoes.....)

I have a 11.3 welsh a and she is on loan to a family with a 3 year old and and 8 year old - 8 year old rides off the lead rein, jumps her, does pc and games and the 3 year ofl rides her on the lead rein - that way she gets the best of both worlds - she gets very bored with just lead rein!
 
Wow what a gorgeous pony, Just the kind of pony I would have been after for my daughter, I have an 11.2 h exmoor/shetand confidence giver on loan for her at the moment and they are like gold dust. Our little Myrtle is a lead rein/first ridden and we were lucky we got her! I'm sure you would have no trouble loaning him.

I sold our little section A Tommy Tucker earlier this year to a lovely family who I am still very much in contact with ...Shes also a hhoer too

I dreaded parting with him but I am glad I did now as he is in a super home .

Like your little pony there, Tommy had a massive jump , did lead rein, m&m works , m&m lead rein and is now currently doing cross country, dressage and show jumping with his now little jockey .

He looks lovely, and a fantastic jump! My daughter loans an 11 yo 11.2, we spotted the advert in a local tack shop, turned out she was kept at the end of our road, so it's been fantastic all round, as she lives as companion to a horse so her owner looks after her but we go and get her and she's schooled in our fields so it doesn't ruin her grazing.

I'd suggest advertise along the lines of: Super LR pony, or as a first/second ridden for confident and competitive jockey as can take advantage of hesitant novices off the LR, but with training and practise would do well as jumping/showing pony for the right rider

(which is pretty much what our one turned out to be)

Am sure there will be plenty of good little jockeys wanting to apply, he looks a lovely pony.
 
aww hes very pretty if you do loan him make sure you protect yourself as much as you can. Am sure there will be someone that will love a pony like him to take to local shows etc usually horse deals or horsequest have loads of wanted adverts for ponys like him good luck
