Does anybody have any tried and tested ideas of what to feed an off the track TB that raced just under 8 weeks ago. I see a slight improvement in his weight but I want to know I'm on the right track. I've got Top Spec on the way as my sister told me to get that, and was wondering what else people had tried? In the morning I like to feed him a mix and in the evening I like to feed him nuts/cubes. He's on the Equine Gold additive as well, with soya oil. Any suggestions for chaff/hard feed/additives appreciated!

i have just started jay on d&h build up mix,he seems to like it.

lots of ppl like alpha oil, jay doesnt like it but it put weight on my exracer

I work at countrywide and get loads of broken bags at knocked down prices, so I grab whatever I think will help, so hes just started on a bag of d&h build up mix so we'll see how that goes. Is that Alfa-A Oil you mean? Does it make them hyper? I've just got three bags of Dengie Hi-fi (special offer) so we'll see how that goes. He was on Countrywide Chaff, but thats like.....£3 a bag so I'm not sure if its going to do much - too cheap to!

Hi, sorry, I keep saying this but my TB thrives on ad lib hay and/or grass!!!

I also feed Alfa A Oil, nuts and additional oil but without the above she would not keep any weight on!

jay has adlib hay in the field & the stable,we have 700 acres of grazing but he still looses weight as he is so fussy about food

I have mine on Build Up Mix Alfa Oil, Top Spec and Sugar Beet. I would be inclined to be wary of stuffing him with feed initially. Let him settle in and find his feet while being fed just enough to keep him going. Then after 6 or 8 weeks start to build up his feed to fill him out.

Have to agree about not stuffing too much food in too quickly, our old welshxTB had been rscued by the lady we bought her from, who had done all sorts to put her weight on, kindly meant but the mare ended up with so many food intolerances that she was really hard to keep and not happy in herself if anyone fed her one of the 'banned' foods.

To feed up my horse he's on
Alfa A Oil
Baileys no4 topline conditioning cubes
sugarbeet
and PinkPowder.
I think there's been a good improvement so far (two weeks) he also has hay at night.
