You should never have just one. I had a whether and nanny they never tried to roam but also got up to mischief. They never ate what they should have as I gave them hay and goat mix. They must have somewhere dry to go at all times. They make you smile .
We had one at our yard- she was known as the free range goat. She would leap out of the paddock into another one with all the Shetland foals lol. Was very sweet though xx
we have two at work , they are lovely but escape artists , they worked out how to open the bolt of their enclosure , had a great time munching on the bedding plants !
they need somewhere dry and safe to go inside , they are also intelligent so need stimulation , will also eat anything , including the black bag & dustpan used to muck them out
here is a pic of them in their 'house' with my dog wanting to meet them
they are browsers not grazers and hate the wet and the cold, will eat everything they shouldn't and nothing they should, they can get laminitis too, you also need a herd number from defra and cannot move them around without informing defra
My neighbour has some & loves them - but she only has 1 horse so I suppose its company for the horse , I'm pretty sure you have to have some sort of licence to keep goats
