Just the normal sit, paw, lie down, role over, speak kind of rubbish...

Do they do what you ask, do random ones or do them all in a row before you even ask??

Mums dog Buffy likes to do them all in quick succession if asked if not, speak and paw is what she likes to do (or balk and poke you in other words!

)

Star can't manage to do them all in a row but likes the speak and paw method!

We haven't taught Alfie any tricks but he knows "spin around" so he just does that all the time!

I'm sure everyone else's dogs are much better trained!

When they're first learning, or they only know a few tricks, they will do their full repertoire of tricks in the hopes of getting a reaction. :gin: If they do, ignore them and go back to the first thing you asked them to do.

Rhu is learning 'hide your eyes at the minute. He only knows the basics for now. Sit, down, lie, roll over, paw, wave, wait and come. He's still a total novice at them too so when you ask him to do something it won't be an immediate reaction.

Stella waits for the next command, unless it's something like "army crawl" or "rollover", which require pretty similar hand commands. Then she starts guessing and getting all impatient.

Star can do High 5 but it's the same as paw really isn't it?? Just looks cooler!

Speak is the worst thing we have taught our girls!! They won't shut up now!

Very cute though!

I've tried to teach 2 border terriers to speak now but they only manage a squeak and wave they front legs like crazy on mine! CUTE!

I love doggies!!

I have a Toller puppy. I've posted a couple of threads on pictures in this forum, should still be on the first page.

How are you training them to speak? I find holding a treat close to their nose, then pulling it slowly back while sayine sssssssssssssssspeak works. Really make a ssss sound as it encourages them to bark.

Can't remember how we taught buff, but we taught Star by knocking on the table and saying "speak"!

she's great at it now, we haven't really taught Alf yet, he likes doing his spin around too much!

I pretty much have a silent doggie and I'd like to keep it that way!

Does anyone do "wait" with their dog i.e. balance a piece of food on their nose until you give the command to go ahead? Stella can do it with the food against her nostrils, but her lack of snoutage makes for an altogether unimpressive effort

Mine know these commands; sit, lie down, on your bed, come, stay, quiet and no. I don't teach these dogs tricks, only words which they need to know living here. My old dog Poppy knew loads and loads of commands as I used to ride out with her and she used to work the horses for me. She also knew loads of tricks. She would never have done her tricks unless I specifically asked for them.

So how did you make her be like that?? Star is so hyper to get what she wants - it may be a hug or a treat - she doesn't seem to be able to control herself!

Prose - V clever trick!! Don't think we'll ever manage that one!! Not until they calm down anyway!

I didn't make her be like that. She was a collie (they're easy peasy to deal with); she always sat patiently waiting for her next instruction.

Star kind of does - but gets frustrated and starts doing what she thinks instead! If your firm she does as she's told, she's just very impatient - a bit like me!

If so that soooooo true!!!!

I know when I have to behave, but generally don't like rules - e.g. I'll work hard, look after myself and my family/friends but don't mind going mad and doing my own thing! My horse and my dogs are EXACTLY the same, and I love it!!

I want them to have a personality, possibly want them to be a bit mad!

I love my animals!

Gercha has a repetoire of tricks including 'High Five' and 'Rollover' - usually she waits for the command but does sometimes stick a 'Rollover' in when asked to 'Lie Down'! We've got her doing a series of three 'Rollovers' in a row now - looks very cute!

My dog knows so many tricks, she always waits for the next command. As well as the usual sit, down, stand, stay, come she can also, go, spin round, high 5, dance on two legs, weave in a figure of eight between my legs, run a a circle around my legs, reverse, heel, and she will jump up on tackle any obstacle I tell her to do. Very clever really!

Loki offers all of his learnt behaviours in a row if he really wants something... for example - he really want to be let off the lead - so i say sit and wait... which he does. if he then isn't immediately let off the lead - he starts to think I want something more from him - so runs through everything he knows in the hope he will get the right thing...

He does it all very fast, sit, down, upsit, left paw, right paw, backwards etc etc...

I taught my boxer quite a few tricks when he was a pup, just the basics as well as high 5 (choose a paw by pointing!), spins, walks through my legs and I started teaching him a "spanish walk" so he lifts the same leg up high as I lift my leg....we didn't quite master it and I've not tried again for a while!!
