A very good friend has a really lovely 6 year old she has brought on herself. He achieved a super double clear at the SoE this weekend at his first novice and so is already on his way to qualifying for a 1*

She is keen to get him to Le Lion. I went before as a visitor and loved the whole spectacle. Trying to find out what the actual qualifications are is another matter. I know they have to compete in a CICI 1* and also a CNCI 1* with no XC penalties and 1 SJ fence allowed done.

However, (and I am well aware that the numbers are very restricted ) you do need to be invited.. but what on earth is a NF? (this was from the website)? How do you raise your profile so you are in the running to be picked?. This horse has a good record to date and is being aimed carefully at different events with the long game in mind, but it would be lovely if Le Lion could be part of this journey. Any help guys?

It's one of those where you need to play the game a bit.

Get as good a record as possible
The spots often (but not always) go to the Pros

I hope you make it. We live just 40mins away, our two young Shagya jump at the venue. Send me a pm if you get in and we will come and say hello.

Thank you - and thank you for taking the time to show what goes on behind the scenes as well. Horse in question does genuinely have a good record to date and has the trainability and calmness to cope with an occasion like Le Lion. Her other more advanced horse would never have coped and the other novice horse is taking his time as was big and needed time. This one could do it though as just takes everything in his (very chilled) stride, hence thinking he could be a serious contender.

You just have to do a CIC* afaik.

But dressage would need to be low 20s and clean jumping/xc record to even be noticed really.

Camphire in Ireland has a 6 year old CIC* class mid season also. I did it on Bill a few years ago :)

Tbh if horse is for long term then I wouldn't be aiming for Le lion, probably would need quite a few runs over the season to be considered for it and even then most spots go to the pros
