Hiya,
As the title states really. Just out of curiosity I was wondering how a horse and rider combination could qualify for the Badminton Grassroots? Are there certain shows and associations you need to go to/be a part of? etc.
Thanks!:)

At 90 level you need to be in the 10% of a normal section to qualify for the regional final. At 100 level you need to be in the top 20% of a normal section to qualify for the regional final.

To qualify for Badminton you need to be in the top 20% of your regional final.

My daughter qualified for both finals last year. She was one place out at the finals for the 90, and then qualified for Badminton for the 100 :)

Sorry if I sound a bit silly but what do you mean by "the 10% of a normal selection"? Is that just a regular regional show?
Congratulations to your daughter! Did she do well at Badminton?

You can qualify for the regional finals at any BE event. They split each class height into sections which will have up to 50 riders. So at an event there might be 200 riders in the 90 height, but they will be split into 4 sections.

Don't know if this makes sense!

Oh ok that does make sense! So if I go to any Affiliated BE event in my region and end up being in the 10% of my section for the class heigh(?) or for the whole class(?) (I'm assuming the latter) then I qualify for the regional finals. And if I were to place in the 20% in the regional finals then I would be qualified for the Grassroots Badminton show of that height...?
Also, can you only qualify for Badminton Grassroots in eventing? Is there no pure dressage or showjumping?
^again, sorry if these are silly questions!

They are a championship for amateur event riders so nothing to do with show jumping or dressage other than they do them as phases within an event.

You would be able to qualify by being placed as already said in the top 10% in a section but you would need to make sure the horse is eligible, they cannot take part if they are downgraded, not to mention the work put in to get to the standard to qualify, it is extremely competitive and increasing year on year.

Take a look through the BE website to give you more idea of what is involved and see if it appeals, be warned eventing is addictive.

If a horse graded at a higher level has not competed at that level for a while and / or is paired with a rider with less experience you can apply for them to be downgraded so they can compete at lower levels. But they still can't qualify for things like badminton grassroots.

Yes you must place in the top 10% of your section. You then get an email saying you've qualified for the regional final. You get one chance at a final oer top 10% placing (so if you place in top 10% in 2 events you can go to 2 finals if you need to)
The standard at the finals is very high and you have to place in the top 20% you will need a dressage score in the low 20s and a double clear.
In my section last year there were only 25 compeititors so only the top 2 riders qualified.
I qualified to go this year but unfortunately my horse has done a tendon so we're not going.
Feel free to message me if you have any more questions
