Qualifying question!

Hi all, this is probably the most daft question in the world but its something I've always wondered!

When a horse qualifies for something, is it the horse and rider combination that qualifies or just the horse alone? I am buying a horse which has qualified Scope 2014 (I can't compete that day even if I could) but for future reference, would I have been able to compete that horse in the class it has qualified or would it have to be the rider who rode the initial qualifier??

Hope that makes sense! Ps sorry for using the word "qualifier" so much lol.

Thanks in advance!

Hannah

Depends on the comp qualified for. I think most SJ comps it's the horse that qualifies but not always.
In dressage a horse qualified for regionals can be ridden by another rider (provided they meet criteria) but once through to the nationals the horse must be ridden by the rider who rode it in the regionals.
So a serious study of the rule book required.

For scope it's the horse that's qualified. I seem to think it's only the new bronze/silver/gold leagues which is combinations but someone else please correct me if I'm wrong! x
