Whats everyones hay like at the moment? It seems that down in Kent, its a little hit and miss, sometimes we get good dust free hay and other weeks its really bad.

I soak my hay and always have due to Ralphs COPD, but sometimes you can get away with 15 minutes soaking, the meadow hay I have now is really bad and needs soaking for ages.

Whats the rest of the county like????

I am sorry to say that I find Kent hay to be generally of poor quality and expensive. I don't know why this is the case maybe supply and demand.

No, our's isn't great. Extremely compacted, a bit dusty, just doesn't look very nice. Even our greedy New Forest ponies are turning their noses up at it and (shock horror) leaving some of it every night. Still, they're both a bit chubby, so it won't do them any harm... They usually just trough up everything they're given, so this is very unusual behaviour!

Its a bit hit n miss by me too having to look around for better but have found a brill way to sort out crappy hay go to stableyard and look under steamed hay.

Will probably end up flogging ours to a hay merchant at this rate.

We got our hay from a farm in canterbury and it was fab stuff not dusty and really heavy bales (I had to stack them!!

) but could only fit 100 bales in our barn which doesn't last very long with 3 big neddies. Then bought some from south of maidstone and it was rubbish think we were shown some different hay when we went to look at it ended up throwing most of it sooo definatelty agree with kent hay being a bit hit and miss!!

I am also having trouble with my forester and hay at the moment - we got a big batch in at our yard and it is really varied he'll eat some bales but others he won't touch and I have ended up throwing away some bales which is very annoying as am paying £4.50 a bale!
