Quality Riding on Malta

Forum Newbie here - be gentle!

I'm hoping to go to Malta/Gozo in May this year, accompanying my husband who'll be scuba diving. I'm hoping to find myself a quality yard for some instruction and hacking while he's bobbing about in the briny. Does anyone have any experience of riding on the islands? Guide books have scant detail, and aside from one place in the middle of Valletta, the more rural places with websites I have found so far seem a little 'relaxed' to my uptight British eye!

Thanks for this: there's actually one listed here whose website has all photos of riders actually wearing riding hats! Call me Mrs Health-&-Safety, but I've had my noggin saved too many times by a good lid that I take a dim view of places that are happy to let customers ride without them.

*And* it's located near where the best dive centre is supposed to be, so that's looking promising.

I went to Malta about 5 years ago now. Stayed in Melliah Bay and went riding. It was an escorted hack but we ended up riding the owners horses who were rather lively!! The hacking and views were fab, if a little scarey at times (hacking 3 feet from a 100+ foot cliff edge!!) not so sure about instruction but would definatly recommend!
 
Went to Malta a couple of years back and I went for a hack with the place at Golden bay and had a lovely time. They let me hang back and have canters while my mum who is novicey went off ahead and did lots of trotting. All the horses seemed happy and well cared for. There was no instruction though just hacking.

We stayed in the raddison hotel just over the road so it was only a short walk there.

I'm thinking of doing similar but towards this winter. If you go this year, can you report back. I'm the same as you re riding on holiday. The horses have to be looked after exceptionally well before I give the owners any money. I just can't ride horses that I feel sorry for. Don't want them too lively either....especially next to 100 foot drops!
