quantity of haylage v hay

i am in the process of introducing haylage as for some reason my horses wont eat their hay .
at the moment they have equal amounts mixed well and accept the hay .
assuming they dont heat up i may put them on haylage completely but am getting conflicting advice re quantity .
some people say i should feed less others the same or more as haylage has more water .
i am feeding the hi fibre haylage which is fairly dry and smells lovley .
please advise as its my first time with haylage .

You need to feed less haylage than hay in terms of quantity, but more in terms of weight. If you weight your haynets aim for about 1/3 more weight than unsoaked hay. But this will look less because Haylage is heavier.
