Hi ☺️
My horse has been lame for 2 weeks I initially thought it was due to the fact he was overdue for his shoes my fault mixed up the dates farrier came out said his feet were long reshod him still lame but I assumed it was because he took a fair bit off his foot gave him the weekend but still no better had farrier come out again and check his foot as there was no heat or swelling and his lameness was only really noticable in walk farrier couldn't find anything no reaction to hoof testers but said to see how he goes so I did no better called the vet and took him there for a lameness work up vet said he was 2/10ths lame in trot on a straight line lunged him on a hard surface and slightly more lame but difficult to tell as he was going slightly on his head then lunged him on a soft surface and he was completely off his head cantering round and round bucking ect so we began to nerve block him and started with his foot and he went sound so took X-rays and nothing's there vet had a very good look all seems fine she did say however his shoes look rather small and on the X-ray they didn't seem to be offering his heel much support so recommended me to ring my farrier and ask for quarter clips to be put on she did explain why but I have completely forgotten 😔 so why would she recommend them could his normal shoes be causing lameness I do have the X-rays if anyone wants to see them I have called my farrier who hopefully will be able to come out this week and put them on

This all sounds like early stage navicular. Quarter clips are used so the toe can be rasped back further, this makes the foot appear to be in better balance to the untrained eye.
It's time to take the shoes off and give your horse a break to preserve him for the long term......spoken from heartfelt experience.
