Right, after a riding session at the local western riding centre OH has decided that he really would love a quarter horse that can lope! (His hero is John Wayne!!!)
He really took to western riding and was cantering round like a real natural, I was so proud of him. Anyway he is 16st and 6ft 3". Therefore I have looked at a few cobs but he keeps saying will they canter, lope, like the quarter horse x he rode and I have to admit, probably not. So we need quarter horse or a cross.
He only wants to hack, and lope, so we do not need competition standard, but we wouldn't want to buy anything older than about 8 years old, and preferably a mare to breed later to RID in Scotland.
So does anyone have any suggestions for places that may have suitable horses for him?
I ve search the internet but nothing much coming up........

there are plenty or breeders, some horses for sale and info on www.aqha.uk.com
or try www.wes-uk.com there will be a local area and if you can get to some shows you should be able to get some help and info and friendship..

My trainer has a 14 year old Schoolmistress for sale at the moment.

Beautiful girl who has been used as the lesson horse for the past year (taught 3 Woodland Rangers to ride). She has been competed at L3 level and his daughter rode her in the Dutch Youth Team, pleasure, trail and Horsemanship. She is now competing with the Novices at L5 level. Only reason she is for sale is that His daughter is just heading off to the USA for work and he doesn;t really want to get into the whole complete novices needing a lession horse scenario.

May be too far to come and she may be too old but she is a beauty;

Trainer is offering Lessons on her as part of the sale package to ensure a click, and they want to ensure a good home so she is up for a sensible price.

Look at the Te koop Page she is "Go Leo Twister"

If you need any help with the Dutch Translation let me know.

Thanks folks thats really helpful. We ve got two to go and see now in Derbyshire so hubby can view on the way back to Scotland from his business trip. He has fallen in love with one already. We want one all finished and done as I would not go through buying an unbacked youngster again!!
The school mistress is a tad too old as we want something to last him about ten years, pity cos she sounds ideal.
