My pony developed Summer Pasture Recurrent Airway Obstruction over the last 18 months and it is now an exclusion on her insurance. She has also been recently diagnosed with low grade Cushings. Both of these conditions are expensive to treat and following a recent flare up of her SPRAO I am looking at the cheapest options for buying the necessary drugs, mainly Ventapulmin and Prascend. I understand that it is possible to get a prescription from the vet and then order online. Does anyone know how easy is it to get these prescriptions and how many times you can reorder?

Shouldn't be a problem as I know more people do this nowadays. Why not contact someone like Viovet direct and ask them for their advice. (I have no connection with them BTW).

My boy has COPD and has a beclamethasone inhaler which is so much cheaper online, my vet has no problem giving me a prescription for this, but there is a charge. They charge £10.80 for a prescription which can include up to 2 items and they also need to see the horse at least once a year which isn't a problem as they see him for his jabs. I am sure this is different for every vet, but gives you an idea. I have used viovet in the past for non-prescription items and they are really good.

My vet charges £6 inc vat for a prescription and I just find the cheapest place on line...usually Animed (Equipalazone)

I bought POM drugs for my horse for years as it was WAAAYYY cheaper than from the vet. The company had their own prescription form which my vet signed and stamped (£10) but that gave me the original order plus, I think, 4 further repeats. It worked perfectly as my mare had to be seen by the vets every 6 months in order to say she was ok to carry on with the medication. The company I used were great and I could receive the drug safely at work within 24 hours (if it fell over a weekend it was all safely locked up in the postroom - these were seriously dangerous drugs). Sometimes I ordered on-line, other times by phone and got to know the pharmacist there on first-name terms. I only had to say what the drugs I wanted were and he would immediately ask how my horse was, even remembered her name. You can't ask for better service than that!

I have heard that there are some natural products for Cushings, so check them out online and also for respiratory. I afford drugs if I can but always check with your vet. Let us know how you get on.
