Is it okay to use a half pad on its own? I Have a lovely lemieux one, but with a numnah under it I find it hard toget both and saddle to sit right on ponys back. On its own the pad and saddle work beautifuly. Do you need a numnah underneath or is that just to keep the pad clean?

I’ve used them quite a bit without a numnah underneath, and always seems to be absolutely fine. I always thought the idea was that the pad sat on the back anyway as that’s what they were designed for.

The numnah underneath is to keep them clean. Don't see the point myself as the idea is the sheepskin is next to the horses skin - i want mine to FEEL how much I spoil them!!

When you wash your sheepskin just cover it liberally in hair conditioner (Tescos cheapy for 29p a bottle) then wash - will come up lovely and fluffy!!

I have the same one in black, they are great used on their own, as another poster says they are only supposed to protect the back of the horse, and using a half pad is fab as your leg is so much closer to your horse without all that bulk underneath.

LMAO!! That's why PF's got 2 full sheepskin numnahs. That and because when she's shedding other numnahs seem to make her go bald!

I DREAD washing my numnahs (I wash them by hand); takes ages and even more ages to dry.
