How does the scoring compare between a Quest Prelim for example and a regular BD Bronze Prelim? I have been doing Quest all year and I'm currently doing the Quest Winter League. However I'm finding I'm getting a bit obsessed about chasing points and putting myself under pressure to go out more than ideal to improve a lower score for example. Ha yes I'm a little OCD about getting to the top of the leader board 🙈 I'm wondering if regular BD would be better next year, where I only have to get 3 scores of 63% or above to qualify for Areas? Sounds much more simple and less time consuming, unless the marking is much stricter, then I'll just find myself chasing those pesky 63%'s I guess.

Theoretically the scoring should be the same ….
Yes I feel it should be, as I'm often at venues where us Quest people go first. Then regular BD starts after, all with the same judge. However when I checked the online scores last time, many of the Bronze Prelim riders were marked lower than the Quest Prelim riders. Although I didn't stay to watch the regular BD, so I didn't see the standard of riding 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m not surprised if I’m honest.

Yes completely agree, quest is more lenient than bd, even if on same day as bd. More like unaffiliated ( though unaffiliated in most of our local venues use bd judges and is reasonably tough ). I’d say a 2 to 5 % difference.

With the way quest is scored - best 5 percentages it’s very valuable to be scored kindly and judges know that. I chatted to a venue organiser who does BD and Quest and she says she purposely books generous judges for quest because it helps people with their placing on a leaderboard.

What a nice organiser!
I found some venues consistently scored higher.
Weirdly one judge who is our nemesis at bd ( Will give us 62 when another judge on same day gives us 69) was happily giving away stonking quest scores .

Well it keeps the customers coming back… after all if you don’t get top 20 you won’t be going to regionals….
