Today I went to buy what I thought was hay but turned out to be Alfalfa. I was going to buy 150 bales but ended up buying 70 small bales of Alfalfa as it was about £1.60 per small bale not expensive.
I am intending to feed my boy hay and add in some Alfalfa as a treat.
My question is this he gets about 20 kg of hay during the winter.
A scoop of garlic chips every second day.
2.5 kg of a coolmix hard food.
A hoof supplement.
How much Alfalfa should I give him? I understand too much can be harmful in some horses. I was thinking 5kg Alfalfa 15kg Hay approx what are your thoughts ?

He works 4 times a week 2hrs per session.

Be aware that some horses are allergic to it. If he gets itchy then that will probably be the cause. We thought mine had acute sweetitch until we stopped the alfalfa.

Alfalfa is a high energy feed it can be as much as
14% protein so I would be drastically cutting or stopping the cool mix apart from a bit to get his hoof supplement in

Apparently most horses is Spain are fed Alfalfa as there is not a lot of hay available. It also makes there pee smell even
