My mare is having the last in a series of Cartrophen injections on Tuesday. She has had one per week over 4 weeks for her Ringbone

My question is, how long after the last injection before we know if its going to work? Do you have to wait a while? I haven't run her up to check how sound she is since the original diagnosis, but am ITCHING to know!

I imagine you would have to wait a while after the last injection to allow it to be absorbed/used in the body..? All I know is that when my horse had her Cartrophen injections, my vet specified that we would never know if it worked (she tore a hole in her deep flexor tendon and had extensive cartilage damage) - it was a bit of a "hit it with this and hope for the best" approach to stop her from forming awkward adhesions within the injury site. She came sound, so either 1) it worked wonderfully, or 2) it didn't work and she came sound anyway

Sorry, bit of a side-track there, but my point is that you almost certainly have to wait to see a result, and be patient and ask your vet on Tuesday!

My horse had cartorphen injections for severe arthritis just over 2 years ago. She had been so lame i was actually told by some one afterwards they thought i should of had her PTS. I was able to see an improvement after the third injection, and two weeks after the fourth i was back riding her! She had another course 20 months later when she started to stiffen again. I was able to see a difference after the second injection this time.
