Question about Exeter Horse Sales

This is Kelsi, she was bought buy a riding school from Exeter horse sales, they wanted her for riding for the disabled but she was too sharp. My friend got her from the riding school and then we bought her. She is lovely, not sure I could take the risk of buying one that had something wrong with it as I would want to give a horse a home for life.

She's lovely and very much the type that was selling. That said, she would have made about £1000 to £1400 today.

Catwithclaws: Over estimates on heights and ages both up and down, with 10 being the most popular number.

The shire x old mare I bid for but lost out to a couple off ladies who seemed lovely. Lot 70 is a known horse and you really wouldn't want to ride it out off a arena, on the roads it will do it's very best to chuck you.

That's good to hear. I stopped to see her a couple of times and the poor girl just seemed a bit bewildered, as could be seen when she was in the ring.

As for Lot 70, I stopped to see him too, he was every inch a chestnut, very much like my OH's mare.

It really breaks my little soft heart that some horses are put through this, I don't think I could bear to go to any sales, I'd take home a box full of crocks, the skinny, depressed ones with the terrible feet :o

neil lots 31 and 30 were from a racing yard, had been together sinces foals.. the owner wasnt even able to give them away, both sharp, and both stroppy .. .

RE the shoeing normally the quarrystone horses... thats how you figure out which name they are currently using.. lol.. just look at the horses feet

yes neil re the doped ones,. the poor little coloured hadnt moved all day there was a puddle under his nose on the floor when his nose had dripped all morning.

I don't tend to go as I'm usually at work. My gelding Jhoward I think paid about £650 for him but she will tell you. He was 4years old broken and came from a dealer with an iffy reputation and yes there were a few issues with him with viruses but he is the most laid back rising 5yo I've known.

Jhoward if that's the 2 tbs that went through after each other, 1 tb gelding who made around £180 not sold and a tb mare both bays she made around £320 but again not sold. I started writing the prices down if anybody is interested but only done the first couple off pages as I went out the back to see if the 17hh 3 yr old coloured had arrived but never turned up. The tb mare looked v calm but the gelding loomed full off it in the ring.

YUP, that's where I spotted the first of the suspect shoes. Never seen a cob with stack soles before :D

There was also a nice looking grey down there. Nice, until you saw the 'tide mark' on its unshod feet. Not nice.

Lol well that answers the PM I sent you!! XX

Did the Fyord ever go back to the sales?? I fell in love with that a couple mths back, but it didn't make it unto the ring because it was lame?

There was no Fjord there today.

It also appears that I missed the subtlety of those sold and unsold. I did notice that the auctioneer was making comments after some horses, but there was so much general hubbub, that I didn't pick it all up.

DD, your pre-sale advice was invaluable, thank you :D

HAHA was there bird poo!!

Quarrystones feet are awful, I'm the same I see the feet and know who's horse it is before I look. I always look feet first as they tell a story about their care and a lot are shocking

How cheap is the tack? I haven't been to the tack sale for ermmm 20 yrs! how much would you expect to pay for a headcollar for instance.. or a GP used saddle........

The thing to remember about Exeter is the sales of Benilin go up the night before, and those shoes are not DIY.. they are by wack em on -------- lol you have to have your eyes wide open and then some! but occasionly you can get the odd one where owners have fallen on bad times..

Do quarry stones have a bad rep? Is this the quarry stones in Devon?...I can't remember the area name! I've been there before...
