Is it like hay, where advice is not to feed it too soon after being cut?

I'm thinking of getting some oat straw to mix with hay for my girls, to try and reduce their calories a little.

I think, straw by its nature is much deader / dryer than hay when it's made so there is no 'curing' (which is code for more drying) after it's baled.

So you should be find.

With the terrible wet weather you might find not that much has been harvested yet.
Oat straw rots down more quickly than the others (which is one of the reasons it's better for feeding!) so if it's wet and farmers are running behind they may well just plough it in rather than bother to bale it.
So if you can get some - go for it.
