question about intensive towing courses

how many hours tuition did you have before sitting your test?
Also, has anyone done the course in an automatic?

I have my cat c for the lorry but I'm considering doing my trailer test so it's there in case of emergencies.
My current car is an automatic and, if I'm honest, I'd much prefer that to using a manual if there is a choice.

I believe you can do it from next year in an auto but not currently.

Did mine in two half days with a further hour before the test.

don't know about automatic. i did mine at the start of august and luckily passed! i'd done maybe 6 hours tops practice before with my bf. then did 2 days intensive- 8am-4am, and the same hours the next day, shared with one other person so you got a break when they had a turn. was quite useful as you could watch what someone else did wrong as well and learn from it! my test was then at 10.30 on the 3rd day, i did literally 30 minutes before the test, could have from 8am, but felt i was prepared and didn't want to be too tired for the test.

I had a taster lesson of 1.5 hrs 3 weeks before test and then had about 5-6hrs in the week running up to the test, including 1.5hrs right before my test.

I'd definitely recommend some tuition even if you're competent at towing the trailer, they just help and show you some little things you need to know to pass the test, like the way the examiners want things done.

I don't have a trailer to practice with or anyone to supervise so I'd have to go back to the place I did my cat C training at.

I was just interested in seeing how many hours training people did so I can get a vague idea of the cost before I talk to Ritchies and arrange an assessment. :smile3:

I guess I'd better borrow the OH's car or take the lorry out for a spin to make sure I remember how to drive a manual. :tongue3:
I hate having to drive unknown cars - it always takes me ages to get used to the clutch. I'm useless. :redface3:
