Question about livery costs, if your horse has a couple of weeks away?

Question:

If you keep your horse on full livery, and you want to take him away for 2 weeks, say for camp or a training course or something, would your yard normally still charge you livery, and if so, what would you be charged for the fortnight your horse is away?
 
A yard I used to be on gave no concession if a horse was away for any length of time.

It was brought up at a yard meeting, and subsequently shot down in flames, when someone asked for a reduced rate when their horse was due to go off on a schooling break for a couple of weeks.

The yard I'm currently at would simply require a percentage to hold the stable. Seems only fair.
 
The thing is, the yard depends upon £x money per week to pay staff etc. They can't say to a member of staff "we don't need you because A & B are away this week", so their costs remain (more or less) the same.

Annoying as it is, I think it is reasonable to have to cough up....

My horse has been away for the 6 week holiday, and my other 2 were out of my fields for 2 weeks as well (so no horses were there), but I paid full livery, and I am on a self-serve DIY yard where there is just me! The last thing I wanted was a couple of other horses bunged out for 6 weeks!!!
 
Personally i think that the basic cost should stay the same, if you on a diy basis youd pay the stable but you wouldnt purchase any bedding or hay on top, part livery basis your normal livery, but if you for example get your horse schooled twice a week by arangment you wouldnt pay that, if your full livery youd pay the full rate. Thing is yards are businesses and are usually not making lots in profits and they have bills to pay, they cannot put somebody else in your stable while your away for a short term basis but there costs wont be much different. If i was taking my horse away i woulnt expect my bill to change. I work with horses and my wage stays the same whether im busy in the winter or the horses are having a holiday in the summer, i wouldbe angry if because of my work load my wae slip had a deduction. Although this is of my opinion and others may think differently. :D
 
Gosh I must lucky then, if it just a few weeks I wouldn't expect it but when T did his suspensory last year then had to move to work as he was not taking box rest my rent went down to 50% while he was away which ended up being 6 months. Well worth it to keep my box. I'm at a DIY yard.
 
I would expect to pay, But i'm on cheap DIY livery might not expect to pay for the extras of full but then you have to consider just because you take a horse away for a while the yard still has the same overheads and cant let your box to anyone else??

Maybe though knock off the cost of bedding/feed etc thats not being used?
