How to you do it if you have more than one horse on Prascend? Do you just have one box at a time or keep each horses prescription separate? How often do you have blood taken?

I’ve always just had a box, price matched from my vets but this time they have not only charged a prescription charge for each horse, but have not actually price matched. (I use 3 a day so asked for 2 boxes which is still less than 6 months worth). I’ve cancelled one box and will ask for a paper prescription for it, but I’m sure how much will be on the prescription since it’s been two months since the pony was blood tested.

I think we just had one box. The one mare took it for several months before the other was diagnosed and then we just shared her box. I got a discount from the vet and when we list the 2nd horse took back the remaining tablets. Receptionist wasn't keen but vet agreed to refund. They do carry some tablets to give out for the 1st week or so.

I've got two on Prascend. They are blood tested every 6 months.

I get each horse her own 6 monthly prescription from the vets - £25.50 x 2.

Then I lodge the prescriptions with whichever on line vet pharmacy I use (currently Viovet) and get them to send me out a month's worth of Prascend at a time. This is currently a total of 75 tablets/month - one mare is on 1.5 tablets/day, the other 1.0 tablet/day.

I think this is what I’ll end up doing. Is your prescription for 6 months rather than an amount of tablets? My vets tend to do it by the box but I have one on 2 tablets so that’s 360 per six months.

when I had 2 on prascend I got 2 prescriptions from the vet with 2 prescription charges, lodged them both with animed an then just applied for X tablets and clicked on both horses on their site.

I didn't do blood tests.

My vets definitely wouldn’t prescribe without blood tests. The last one I was also charged a “brief consultation” of £20 despite the fact that no consult took place!

one was semi feral and the vet couldn't get close enough to even touch her. Any test result would have been inaccurate due to the extremely high stress levels. The 2nd tested very negative twice and had every symptom so we trialled and carried on without for several years.
