I have just had a three year old diagnosed with Ocd chips in his hocks. He was being sold had shown no signs of lameness was xrayed as part of the vetting procedure which has since caused the deal to fall through... Just wondering that if I get them removed would future xrays show up clean? And would he pass a vet exam. Shows no signs of lameness etc HAs anyone any experience of this??? ANd if so are chips removed from many horses? do many people buy orses prviously diagnosed with ocd chips that have cosmetic surgery and now appear clean?

My 18 month old colt was diagnosed with OCD in his hock when he was 10 months old.. He had the chips removed and some of the cartlidge removed.. He has never been lame and the only sign was a swelling on the side of his hock... The vet reckons hopefully he should go on to have a normal life, but may need the operation done again when he is 4 yrs old if the remaining cartlidge doesnt repair itself properly.. The operation in total and aftercare in the vets was £2900 but luckily he is insured.. There was quite alot of aftercare involved when I got him home he was on box rest and then paddock rest for about 8 weeks in total, apparently it is quite common in younger horses though...

Good luck and hope he makes a full recovery.....
