I want to set up 3 poles in the corner of the school for a 13.2 pony. How far apart should they be? And when I'm measuring distance, am I measuring the distance between the middle of each pole to the next?

All guidelines seem to be for horses and I don't want to get wrong.

Thanks in advance!

The beauty of corner or curved poles is you can choose your stride length even if they are set to a horse size. Just aim for slightly inside the centre line, moving to the centre for larger striding mounts.

Thanks Equi, I think it was worrying that it might make the angle too acute for him, but that makes sense. 🙂

Hey South, for a 13.2 pony, aiming for about 3.5 to 4 feet (around 1.1 to 1.2 meters) between the centers of the poles is usually a good starting point for walk poles, and around 7.5 to 8 feet (about 2.3 to 2.4 meters) for trot poles. But like Equi said, with curved poles, you’ve got some wiggle room depending on your line. Measuring from the centre of each pole to the next is standard, yes. If your pony is comfortable and not rushing or stretching too much, you’re probably in the right range. Just keep an eye on how he moves through them and adjust if needed.

Thank you, very helpful 😊

It depends if you're wanting to trot or canter? Walk and trot poles I generally space them one large stride apart. Canter poles three small strides.
