i did work experiance at Barleyfields EC, and i help set up a WH course. It was similar to SJ but was made of rustic fences, some being pretty narrow, also had a white gate and log roll fillers.
I think you are ok to wear a martingale but check. You jump the course first and then the clears (usually but maybe four faulters too depends on size of entry how many placings how many clears etc.) Come back in and walk trot canter together then do individual show including gallop. Depending on where you are you may also be stripped down and have a ridden judge. It's usually in the same ring but big classes at county the ridden section takes part at the same time in an adjacent ring.
Thank you ajn1610, we have jumped the WH jumps before, last year we had jumping lessons up at the showground and we were jumping courses in there but I just didnt know which order it went in!
Bear's a 15hh Cob x but Im not very brave so what height would we get away with jumping?
WH fences are not generally that big (depends on class) but be we have found if your horse is not the typical 'hunter looking' type you don't seem to stand a chance. i don't really get why there should be a 'type' for WH provided the horse does what it is required, jumps well and opens the gate well (if there is one in the course). We have found many a time that ones that LOOK the type seem to get placed higher even if their jumping was hideous and their manners have left a little to be desired!
I find it very irritating to be honest, surely the ones that perform the best should be higher in the placings not the ones who just look the part but actually would be next to useless on the hinting field! It seems the title 'working hunter' seems to be often missed!
When we done the Cob class last year we were not in the right class LOL! All the horses were like giant tanks!
They do an under 15hh, I just don't know the height restrictions on them, cos I dont want to be jumping 2ft 9''!!!
